Mason mctavish seems like a good fit to add depth to center, good size potential replacement for horvat 4-5 years out.  What’s his face off 2 way play like?

We don’t need a Horvat replacement though we need a defenseman or a winger ready to make an impact in a year or two.

I take Reinhart (with an extension signed) and Ristolainen for our 1st, DiPietro  and Eriksson.

I bet you would!  Lol

I would too.

A signed Reinhart is worth more than our pick.
Risto isn’t a cap dump, so I doubt they are going to take our giant cap dump with just DiPietro as the sweetener.

Luke to me seems like a poor man’s Quinn.  Luke doesn’t seem like he’ll be a bad player, but with Rathbone and Quinn already here, I think the Canucks would be going to the proverbial well one too many times with a Luke Hughes selection.  Pass for me.

True, but we could get the bros together. Then they could bro-pressure Jack into demanding a trade to us

Always draft BPA.

Having said that......I’m just not that high on McTavish.  Skating issues + lack of consistent physicality.  At least from my view.

Exactly BPA.

I don’t think that will be McTavish if he’s even there at 9.

To be honest, I don’t think Edvinsson will be there by the time we’re up.  Carson Lambos has really impressed me so far.  I think he could be one of the hidden gems in this draft.

His shot release is what I notice most.  That and his stocky frame.

Well, here is my thought of the day............

Vancouver #9, Schmidt, and 2023-1st

for

Jones (sign and trade) and their 2021-2nd

If we’re giving up two 1sts I’d try and give them Myers instead.

Roll Schmidt-Jones as a top pair

and keep Hughes-Hamonic on the 2nd.

All it would take is one team like Columbus stretching and taking McTavish or Johnson with their pick to throw the whole thing off.

Then all of a sudden Detroit takes Edvinsson, San Jose takes Eklund, and LA can’t pass on a goalie so they take Wallstedt.

All of a sudden Hughes is there at 9.

And you're 100% correct with this and this is why this draft is so unique! Or NJ could just take Hughes at 4 lol. We won't know until draft day which is 6 weeks away. Let the speculation begin..

I think we will have choice between Guenther, MacTavish and Johnson.  I hope JB goes with who he thinks has the highest skill.

Here is my top 7:
Sabres- Power- Pretty much a no brainer to pair with R Dahlin
Kraken- Beniers-Start with a C
Ducks-Hughes- LHD is a bit of a gap for them, pair with Drysdale
Devils- Clarke- Quality player, hardest asset to acquire
Blue Jackets- Eklund- Should be top 3
Wings- Wallstedt- Fills a huge gap, close to a sure thing in a wide open draft
Sharks- Edvinsson- Huge raw talent.  They have time to develop him

I would love to have Jones but I really can’t see CBJ accepting that deal.

CBJ will likely do whatever they can do convince Jones to sign through this year and if are unable to do so, will likely trade him at the trade deadline for a small fortune.   Seth Jones is the type of guy that can land one Jack Eichel or Mitch Marner type guys.   No way we even get a sniff of Jones’ jockstrap for that offer.  After next season, Jones could also be looking at a 9-9.5 million AAV.

I’d much rather kick the tires on Hampus Lindholm if we’re looking to make a trade.  Lindholm, unlike Jones, won’t cost an arm and a leg.   I’m also willing to bet that HL can be signed to a 6-6.5 million AAV contract long term.    He’s the less sexier option than Jones, but he’d fit in well with our long term cap structure.   He would also fit our needs better as well since he brings more of a defensive element to his game than Jones (though Jones is better in most other areas).

Pairing Lindholm with Schmidt would also allow Schmidt to possibly start playing like he did in Vegas.......which would make Schmidt AWESOME value at his 5.9 million dollar cap hit.

2nd thought of the day

If Wallstedt gets taken early, which I think he does

Cossa has a chance of also being taken early

I mean, when do you see 1 goalie being put into the 1st round, let alone 2

I think that is a statement of the talent in the first round OA,

So with Columbus, San Jose, Detroit and LA all needing goalies

and goalies taking a long time to develop..........is there a chance?

Maybe!

I don’t know Guenther that well but I easily pick Johnson over MacTavish.

Ps - Have you watched Carson Lambos play at all?  If so, what are your thoughts?   I have him pegged as being my dark horse.
