Riley Stillman | #61 | D

-AJ-

Recommended Posts

Unsure if he'll be more of an NHL or AHL defenseman, but recent history suggests he's more of an NHL guy than AHL, so I'll put him here.

Some things I've found:

- Not overly big or small, but can be physical and does sometimes fight

- Despite his physical nature, he doesn't take that many minor penalties

- Played 3rd pairing minutes for Chicago last year

- If he were to play 82 games, it would be reasonable to expect 10-20 points from him

- All 12 of his points last year were on even strength

- Highest hits/60 of all Blackhawks defensemen last year

- Average shot block frequency

- High ratio of major to minor penalties (4 major, 8 minor). Probably from high number of fights relative to minor penalties.

- Was not a regular on the PK, but did get tried out at times for the Blackhawks

- Virtually no PP time at all

- Usage split pretty evenly between offense and defensive zones

- Pretty bad possession numbers (41.3% CORSI)

I like the addition of Stillman, wears #61 just like his dad. His dad also won a cup and was a PPG playoff contributor to Jim Rutherford's Stanley Cup winning Carolina team as well.

Hope he does well with the Canucks and can lay out some opposing players and back it up. Might get some penalty killing time too maybe?
