Popular Post awalk
400k just enough to get us under the cap LOL I don't hate this deal, it's not a terrible move... but I don't like the direction this management group is taking us at all. Not sure I've soured on a GM so quickly. Sigh. 1 1

Not keen on his 2.2M qualifying offer. A 2nd to dump Dickinson, a 5th for a guy who we'll probably let walk if his play doesn't seem worth 2.2M. I don't think it's fair to jump on folks who aren't keen on our giving up the 5th, picks add up and our last management group liked to hand picks out too. I think they view him as having more potential than a stop gap. I hope they give him some time with OEL and lets see how he performs with a veteran partner. 3

billabong
I’ll take this gamble for 5th since 5th round picks have like a 2% chance at playing 100 games in the NHL W for Canucks 1

I'm saying whatever benefit he could bring to this team was not worth trading for. He got beat out by Jalen Chatfield - the same guy who couldn't win a spot on our terrible defence group. Put that into perspective for a moment. So, yeah, what do I care if another team claimed him ahead of us? I don't, so it matters not.

Darius
Meh Its like when my kid's room is a mess and she comes out and tells me "I picked up a pair of socks from the floor". Yeah ok, its still a mess. I guess there is a chance that Studnicka and or Bear turn it around and these become home run deals - they are young enough. Also, im glad it wasnt hogs going the other way.

You are worried about a 5th rounder for someone who will come in and be on the roster right away? 7 minutes ago, Pears said: Please tell me how many impact defensemen have been drafted in the 5th round I’ll wait. The problem isn't the one pick in particular -- it's the accumulation of picks that we continue to throw away. We need to draft and develop players. Our prospect pool is abysmal from past management wasting away picks, and we're seeing that trend continue. Volume of draft picks is so important. The trades we've seen, along with PA's comments about wanting players to help now instead of in 5 years, shows just short-sighted our staff are. This current team is already a lost cause, no need to try and patch it up for a 17th place finish. Rip the bandaid off and make trades to better the future. Fanuck
Essentially the equivalent of Bear for a Myrenberg-level prospect with Pederson a 'throw-in' long-shot to even have a full NHL career.

I just don't expect him to move the needle a whole lot, and I question whether he'll be worth qualifying at 2.2M. Guess we'll find out. Giving out two picks within a month isn't an encouraging sign for those like myself who advocate for keeping our own picks and using them to draft and develop our own players though. This ain't Benning PTSD, this is a management group that came in saying they value picks and want to get younger who've now gone and traded two picks within a month. Bear will be 26 before next season begins, I'm of the opinion that he largely is what he is at this point. 1
