It is never a good thing when somebody loses their job. I don't care how incompetent you think Cull was, he gave it his best every day and tried to help turn the ship around. He failed and was let go, but please, NEVER applaud when a decent person loses their livelihood.

Please, a boss has responsibilities and Utica was bad when he coached.

How do you know he is decent by the way?

Was a fun ride but retiring as a Nux fan..watching what that man went through, I hate this organization. Thanks Bruce ! ...now excuse me as I go get my lobotomy.

That's what makes you walk away? Weak. :picard:

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I agree it wasn't handled exactly right.

Like I said, I think they should have told him he was going to be replaced back in December, even by who, and given the option to stay on until a replacement or leave right then. (and maybe he was) But personally I really think they should have just kept him as a lame duck coach....if that is what he chose to do. The players would have still played for him. It wasn't a classic case of players tuning out the coach.  So firing this particular coach mid season in this case was and is totally unnecessary.  A dumb move IMO.

But if everyone is honest, including local media,, we all knew this was Bruces last season. And it was also not inconceivable that he'd even be let go during the season if the team was tanking badly.  So that means  Bruce also knew what was coming and had to be already preparing himself for it. Especially with the way the team was losing.  I think its also possible that JR had even told Bruce privately before hand.

It was a long slow painful process.  But the team itself is in a slow painful period in its existence too. Nothing will be easy or smooth right now. Could have been handled a little more sensitivity, but it would still be ugly, because the whole team is in an ugly turmoil right now. But Bruce will be fine, and we all hope in the end, this will all work out for the Canucks success going forward.

Juice sorta addressed this last night. It was the idea that all of this went public (too public). Sure, many of us had a feeling that Bruce isn't going stick around, but at least let him finish this season? The hell is the point of changing the coach half way through? So we can experience a coaching bump with 40% of the remaining schedule against opponents that are 23rd or lower in the standings?

Regardless of whether JR spoke with him or not, proper way to transition (imo) was dismiss Bruce and name Yeo as the interm coach. Also, from Bruce's interview with the media (jokingly or not) it sure sounded like they didn't even give him a heads up when everything has already been finalized.

i do think there won’t be a traditional coach’s bump here.

when Bruce came into replace green they had quit on green and the changes made to the system.

bruce came in and made hockey fun for them.

rick isn’t coming in to make it fun.

I’m expecting us to have big growing pains with the new system. Especially considering how drained emotionally the team is at this point.

as for Ricks Character I don’t know enough but those were some pretty big red flags but like you said he’s potentially paid his dues as it was a long time ago and people make mistakes.

my biggest concern with Rick is if he clashes heads with Petey or Hughes. Or ruins an unexpected relationship.

other than that I’ll remain optimistic and give him to the start of next season before i critisize his system and ability to coach our team. But I’m nervous about it too like yourself.

More likely a demko bump

I'm skeptical of this coaching staff lead by a criminal with a losing record. Foote and Gonchar were fine players but that doesn't necessarily mean shit all when it comes to coaching, Gretzky did everything Gretzky did and was awful.

They're all just placeholders as this organization tries to figure it's shit out. Retool, yeah right, more like a rebuild. Call it what you will, we're in for more pain. Hopefully they at least commit to a direction instead of trying to take shortcuts like the last regime but I doubt it.

Any old timers remember Bob McCammon?  This sorta reminds me of that situations several years back.  Very likeable coach, players loved him, given a deficient roster.  Everyone knew the axe was coming well into the 91 season that wasnt going so well.  HIs final game the team played their hearts out trying to save his job, vastly outshooting the other team (if memory serves me correct) and he got canned after the game.  I really felt bad for the guy.  If there was social media back then im sure everyone would be lit up.

In the end the team moved on and in retrospect it was for the better.  I think we should give the new crew a shot.
