I am not convinced he sold high.

My initial thought was to look at his draft position and ask why we'd give up a 1st for him but what matters now is how good Hronek is rather than draft position.

If draft position mattered after years of being drafted, Juolevi and Virtanen would have been worth more.

The question that matters is, what is the probability that  an 18-22 pick turns out to be an RD as good as Hronek? If it's low, then that's a good trade for us. I think Hronek has been and will continue to outplay the 18-22 pick.

It should be a win win for both teams.   As long as Hronek works out for us and we can re-sign him at something reasonable.   For them it could accelerate a year of drafting between the picks.    They need some game breakers still.

He sold very high on Hronek. A former 2nd round draft pick that netted him two high picks from a lotto team.

Doesn't matter really, where he was drafted?

Its like saying Brayden Point wouldn't be worth two high picks, cause he was drafted in the 3rd round.
To PAs Canucks he is hopefully worth the two picks used... time will tell.

This makes no sense. Yzerman made a huge error trading their best D man to us for a later first and a mid second. The Wings have gone in the dumpster since Hronek has been out of their lineup. SLO Mo is showing he’s not able to play the hard minutes.
Allvin with the steal of the TDL. Brilliantly done too. Turn our Elephant into a 25 year old, elite RS #2 D, a 24 year old top six forward, and a great 20 year old centre prospect. And some Canuck fans think that’s a bad deal? ROTFALMAAO

Exactly, name the ones over 10 in the draft that will be a better RHD than Hronek.
Be my guest…

If we would have waited until the summer, we would have got him for a fraction of what we wasted on him - let alone there will other RHD's available then.   Buying at the TDL is like buying roses at Valentines!  Anyone older than a "Millenial' will confirm that!

Actually we would have to pay more, or (more likely) Hronek isn’t even available. Yzerman found out how valuable Hronek was to their club since gone. Add that to the Islanders’ pick being of lesser value now, at the cost to pry Hronek out of Detroit would be more than we could afford. Thank goodness Allvin made the deal when he did.

It's actually called asset management.

So much negativity and sarcasm about Hronek.. Hronek played 4 games and played over 20 mins in the games..

Hronek looked good and why play him if shoulder is a little sore... Not making playoffs, great move not playing him any longer..

Hronek will be great for Vancouver...

Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek returned to the lineup last week from a shoulder injury but that return was short-lived.  Speaking with reporters today at his pregame press conference (video link), head coach Rick Tocchet indicated that they’ve decided to shut the blueliner down for the rest of the season:

There’s really no reason for him to come back. If this were a playoff game, he’d be in the game, but it’s not a playoff game. Every game is important to us obviously, but not at the expense of… he’s going to have a long time to get his shoulder perfect.

Hronek is a top 20 NHL D man and bonus is a RD man, so hard to find and 25 years old another bonus.. Win win..

Well, there might be, just like Hronek was 53oa pick in his draft.  Thing is, it usually takes the lower picks a

significant timeframe to develop their game to that level.  Usually 4 - 5yrs.  The Canucks need that player

right now, if they are planning to get into playoff hockey anytime soon.  This core of our team are ready to

play meaningful games (now), so they need the support players in place to keep pushing for a playoff spot.

I hope that the Canucks acquire a 2nd round pick at the draft and do manage to find a player that will

develop into a top 4d or top 6C.  Those will be the players that sustain the level of play that the current

core will have established over the next few years.

What? Hronek just turned 25 not 20. Steal of a deal by our GM. Kind of like a Gillis move. Very smart.

Hronek is a top 20 NHL D man. .. Not his age..look again.. He is 25 years old turning 26 in November..

Totally agree. Hronek’s current trade value has nothing to do with his draft position. A guy’s draft position will impact his trade value for a couple years post draft. At 25 a guy’s value is in how good he is. And Hronek is very good.

We can't be making up stuff if we're going to make a case for something.

He is actually ranked 29th by points.

Top 20 in all time Canucks owned D man maybe? I don't get it either. Watch this guy go through injuries and want 7 mill. People will still say we won the trade when we flip him for someone else down the line.

Hronek is a fabulous player. We are so blessed to have a good GM again who can identify great D (like Gillis did with Errhoff and Hamhuis) and bring in these great players. Hronek was a steal.

Well… its also a lot easier when you are a contending team and one of them happens to be from BC….
JT Miller was absolute highway robbery. Weren’t a contending team, buried in TBL and the price paid was an absolute joke considering what his value proved to be since signing here
