Not quite him dreaming of being a Canuck necessarily. Guy is from Missouri, can't imagine he had much familiarity with the Canucks there. Lol. But if he did dream of the Canucks back in Missouri, that's kinda neat. I just don't think that's the case. @N7Nucks Breaker of Dreams. 1 1

There's no excuse for his play, and to think I was one of this fanbase that was excited to see him picked up as a free agent. Ah I was in the fanbase thats been upset about his signing since he signed even got into an argument with my beer league team about it. Well we are probably going to lose more than we win here with or without him either way here.

Last year PA did a great job on getting European free agents to improve the prospect pipeline and this year he has done a great job with the college UFAs. The key here is age and development. This year, every D in Abby made a lot of progress (Wolanin, Juulsen, Woo, Brisebois). At age 21 McWard has a lot of runway and probably one of the selling points is the development team the Canucks have put together. Late bloomer who grew late -- perfect -- Tanev 2.0. I was hoping for Livingstone but, on reflection, I am happier with this signing. Livingstone might be able to play on a third pairing or as 7th man right away, but there is a good chance that is his ceiling. McWard has more upside even if he is a couple of years away. Excellent post! Feel the same way. Although there aren't any guarantees, it finally feels like we're in the wheelhouse of getting our D development right. It's a gamble but I feel far more confident from what I've seen from PA and Co. in this department. I've said this around here several times ... the fact that PA and management have admittedly placed priority on Abby is something to be extremely excited about for the future. 2

Yep already loving this management and their knack for signing these college free agents and young prospects. Way better than Benning signing often injured washed up NHL vets like Ferland, Poolman, Sutter etc.
Phat Fingers
Wow Did the Canucks finally go back to the NCAA and sign another RHD!? Did Alvin and Rutherford just go out and add a D pairing that is young and will be in the system next season? Someone in the Canucks finally is going back to the well. Tanev and Stecher are both ahead in the depth chart of our RHD outside Hronek. Glad someone remembered where the NCAA was.

He was described as having a similar style to Quinn Hughes, but nowhere near the skills. Now that he is 6'1" and 192lbs, I would think his game has changed and he could probably withstand the NHL defensive game. Love the timeframe he has for development. Ala Chris Tanev… late Bloomer that learned defence as a very undersized player, so he had to defend with smarts speed and skill. then he got a late growth spurt that has made his game better. At 21 he is far potential for upside than others and was not on the radar to sign as he has two years left. He was a great find and someone put in some serious work to scoop McWard for the Canucks. He is the exact type of player we need and I am happy that someone has figured out how to find and sign players like McWard. Thats 4 NCAA players signed in one year.
