2.5 years of Jeannot for cal foote, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th

172 gp and 66 career points....

where's the crowd that disagreed with my statement about Beauviller with 50% retained at 2024 tdl would bring a late 1st back?

I mean if he’s gifted a spot next to Pettersson and Kuzmenko it’s not crazy to think Beauvillier should be on a 40+ point pace. Pump up that trade value!

Couldn't help but wonder if TBay's sweetheart draft pick pkg was pre-planned compensation for Preds accepting the McDonagh albatross? Such a shady casino of a league...

I wouldn’t look too hard into that. Tampa has been overpaying for good 3rd liners on team friendly deals for about 3 to 4 years now. They paid a lot for Jeannot, Hagel, Coleman and Goodrow. When you’re a team tight to the cap with cup contention every year you need to find players that can give you more than their contract pays them. I didn’t like the price of any of these trades for them at the time they were made but it’s hard to argue the Hagel one now. Guy produced 64 points last year at 1.5 million and is signed for one more season on the cheap 1.5 mill rate. Tampa is trying to find guys that might have some untapped potential maybe feel if Jeannot is given a shot in the top 6 he could keep up and elevate his game.

They signed him to a number that allows them to just be under the cap with LTIR included.  They are done with their roster now.  If Jeannot can actually step up his game and become a top 6 player then he could help them win another cup and the trade is worth it.  If he is a 3rd line grinder putting up 20-30 points then the trade will look really bad.

Also, Jeannot should focus on scoring and playing a heavy game, not just getting into fights all the time.  If he busts his hand then he will be of no use in the playoffs...

Good price actually, though very likely just a cheap bridge. Might be good for them to win another Cup though. They aren't likely thinking long term with Jeannot, just extending their window.

They could pay this price for a pure rental. Having him for two more years the gamble is well worth it for where they are in their cycle.

I keep thinking that Tampa is an old team and then I realize that of their core guys only Stamkos and Hedman are on the wrong side of 30 (with Kucherov recently turning 30). It feels like guys like Vasilevskiy and Point have been in the league forever but they are only 28 (about to turn 29) and 27 respectively. Then you have Sergachev, Cernak, and Cirelli at only 25, 26 and 26 as well.

I think their core has another 4-5 years together. Stamkos and Hedman probably sign team friendly extension for 3-4 years while they go for some more cups. The rest of the guys are still pretty young like you said. With the cap going up I don’t think they will have cap issues either as all their younger guys are signed long term.
