What context lol?

Every sort of stat points to Myers being an average defenseman. Several writers on twitter have shown this statistically in their own way.

Eye-test? If you're not going to take my word for it, fine, but go and read the mixed (at best) reviews from Winnipeg and Buffalo fans.

There's absolutely nothing out there that you can provide that suggests that Myers is worth anything close to the contract that's rumored other than, again, "If Benning does it, it must be good."

I understand the merits of having a "positive outlook" but like I've said here many times in the past, there's positivity and then there's delusion.

Hoping Myers becomes/is the D-man we all hope/need him to be won't magically make it so. It didn't make it so with Gudbranson and it's not going to work here.

Markstrom has been a good goalie for one season.

Hopefully that continues.

Yeah hopefully, as much as everyone loves Demko, there's no other options right now.

And if we've learned anything from the trade Tanev saga, its that Jim Benning isn't going to weaken his team in the present. (Especially after this JT Miller trade)

yeah you can drop that from our discussions please. Don't throw me in that box.

Myers is average yes, but we are in a market situation to have to overpay a bit for that. He's going to get paid better than a #4, and not quite a #2. It is what it is.

But we're also not giving up an asset for the improvement. And it is an improvement.

I can't see this contract being less than 6 x 6.

Myers is turning 30, so lets say realistically he's an effective #4D for 3-4 more years. So no matter what this contract is going to be an anchor. That's what I'm bracing for.

But what other option do we have? Benning's desperate to improve the defense, & there's not alot of assets to deal trade wise. I think we pretty much have to do it.

I could live with a 4-5 years deal for Myers, but anything over that no thanks.

He is not that essential of a piece on the blueline.  I'm all for going for Dmen in FA, but need to know your price and when to walk away.  Explore other options elsewhere.

It's like when I hit some bonus payouts on the Blake Shelton Penny Slots last week at the Casino and was up $65.....should have just taken my money and cashed out

The cap is rising, he can retire without penalty as he is 30, not 35.

Myers is a sound defenseman and has a key ingredient that we need with Hughes and Stecher, he is big.  Not physical, but big.  With Edler, Hutton, Schenn and Myers, we have some size to work with Hughes, Stecher and Tanev.

As he gets close to the end of his deal, he will still be able to play and be big.  Added that, we are as good as &^@#ed if we don't add a top 4 RHD.

It's a seller's market and we need to buy.  Suck it up and realize that JB isnt going to make a deal with a conditional 1st and not try everything possible to make that pick as worthless as possible

Completely agree.

I know the contract is going to be bad, that's just a given. I'll be excited to have Myers & just hope for the best down the road.

(Or just not think about the later years, like I'm sure our front office will do upon putting pen to paper)

Myers is a legit top four right side dman. Our other options are an oft injured Tanev or a Stecher who is trending upwards but would probabaly wilt with more tough minutes. Hope we sign Myers. It will take term but you can always just buy out the last year if needed. Get it done JB and if he does I will be happy with the upgrade.

30mill over 5 years

or 26.mill over 4?

We aren’t getting Myers for that.  We aren’t getting Gardiner for that either.

The term will be 6 or 7 years.  The cap will be 7 to 8 million.

What's your solution to the RHD issue then?

Benn to plug then pursue after Barrie at next year's free agency? People thought Zaitsev's contract was bad and hes like a little more than half of what Myers is being hyped to want? I have no clue man, but I just know if it's what the media is hyping it up to be then we're going to be in deep trouble long term. Would it be better to do nothing than handcuff ourselves with an 8x8 albatross? I'm leaning towards yes...
