King Heffy
Just when I thought they couldn't get any more stupid. The problem there is clearly their idiot of a GM.

Vinny in Vancouver
Btw, to those of us laughing at the Leafs today, we probably have the playoff Bruins to thank for it. So here's to you, Bruins:

He is no longer the same coach and the game is completely different now. Not to mention all of the people that have consistently said that players do not like playing for him. I don't think he's the right fit for this team. He coaches well, and wins championships. Period. 2016 World Cup 2014 Olympics Gold 2010 Olympics Gold 2008 Stanley Cup 2004 World Championship etc I'm sure I missed a few here or there including 1997 WJHC gold. The fact I could miss a few here or there while listing his accolades says plenty about his qualifications to take over for Green. 2 1 1

HKSR
"Babcock's teams generally focus on skills and puck possession." I'll take that over the dump and chase method deployed by Green. We have Hughes and Pettersson, why on Earth do we deploy dump and chase methods??

KelownaCanucksFan
This move is surprising, this is all on Dubas once you get passed the top 6 players on that roster the roster depth is worse than most other teams. as for the elephant in the room, I think the Canucks need a “kick in the pants” kind of coach, you see how Travis likes to be positive about everything, that doesn’t fly in pro sports, the only one who has been remotely successful is Pete Carroll, but that’s because he balances it out by having real hard ass assistants. Watching so many players openly showing frustration on the ice (slamming sticks, Petey glare when he doesn’t get a pass etc) game after game shows a high level of frustration in that room. I put a lot of that on Green, his systems don’t work, he refuses to make a change in coach for the powerplay, constantly gets out coached game after game. I’d make the switch, Babcock would make a great transition coach for 1- 2 1/2 seasons before finding a long term coach when the team is already become successful on the ice.
Popular Post Attila Umbrus
Ok read through all the pages, everyone has some good pro and cons to Babcock. One thing not brought up yet is his record, to date his lifetime record is 700-419-19...let that sink in. The complaint about players not liking him are kinda true but most complaints are from players that didn’t fit with him. If we look at what he is used to coaching we have guys with open mind sets and all want to play a good 200 foot game, even Petey and Boes...he could actually turn out to be what the doctor ordered for this club. I think most of our guys would buy in. We don’t have divas like Matthews and Nylander on our team. Green has shown over and over that he cannot change up his tactics, i’ve been watching him since his first season in Utica and he honestly hasn’t changed much at all. He is getting out coached and does not have the awareness to switch things up other than juggle lines. I’ve grown tired of him, amd I honestly think the players have too. In Babcock you get that experience, i’d be happy with him behind the bench just in the sense that he is wise enough and seen enough. There aren’t too many games where Babs gets out coached. This alone would be worth it to me. I will come out and say I’m a Babcock fan, and I can agree he can be full of himself sometimes...but it’s hard for him to hear the complaints with all the gold medals and Stanley cup plugging his ears. Give him a break...lol. Side note, people point to his last years in Detroit being bad. But look at what he had to work with. The team had bottomed out and their prospect development stalled. They weren’t unearthing low round gems like Datsyuk and Zetterberg Anymore...as the Wings aged out they had no young blood to replace them with. Detroit has been in a rebuild since he left and still has a ways to go.

The Great 8
My money is he goes to the flames and Peters gets fired if the team has a rough December. That flames team got way higher expectations than us and are playing like absolute trash lately. Owner and gm are gonna be desperate

Not really. It seems clear that Babcock and Dubas were at odds. Shanahan is the referee and he made the call. I would imagine that Babcock was given the opportunity to play nicely with Dubas but probably wouldn't yield. Hence the statement yesterday that he would bet on Mike Babcock. Put another way, he was saying that I will do it my way, which likely didn't fit with Dubas' direction. 2

The thought on this is, because it was Shanahan that pushed for and hired Babcock, that it should be him that fires him, not Dubas. Keefe, on the other hand, has been Dubas’ guy since the OHL, so this is entirely on him, now. 1
