[Proposal] Canucks and Leafs

Recommended Posts

The Leafs have a crunch to improve their defense and one of our biggest presses is to get Bo Horvat a consistent line mate.

Now ideally we involve Tanev, but due to the fact him and Hughes are playing good together, Why not Stetcher go the Leafs to improve their  team....

Now what we would want back possibly, Kapenen to me comes in mind.... Horvat is struggling and we were hoping he would have a 60 point season. Now I do understand Horvat is playing a huge defensive role and takes the tough matchups but we need to do better for him.....

We compare him to being our Bergeron or Kesler etc. The difference is they had seasons with good +/- , Horvat does not but he has the ability to imo

We do have Poldkozin who could step in next year or Hoglander.... essentially if we are a playoff team pull the trigger, if not wait a year and see where we are

The new coach seems to have placed Kapanen on the 3rd line today so maybe?

Kapanen for Stecher straight up and sending Loui to Utica works cap wise.

Loser Leafs would want Tanev and Beagle.  Those are two defensive specialists, who play hard minutes, and play the right way.  They are both seriously tough too.

They'd want to dump salary our way though, so I would expect Nylander and Barry as the two Loser Leafs coming our way.

This is good idea, however, I would like to do this after confirmation of Tree coming back.

Stecher+ for Barrie would give me a 4.7 inch woodie, but that “plus” would likely have to be massive from our end.

Barrie would fit our system well and I think we’d see Barrie return to his Colorado-esque form if he came back here.

Only thing we can’t do is move Tanev for Barrie since Tanev is our top 4 defensive defenseman option.

Perhaps Stecher + Virtanen gets errr done?

This narrative of Horvat struggling is false.

He was being vastly overplayed while beagle and sutter were/ are hurt.

He played 27 freaking minutes one game!

Hoping Horvat was on pace for 60ish?

23gp 8g 10a for 18 points

Some basic math for you, 23 games played and he has 18 points.

So multiply 23 for games played by 3 which = 69.

So 3x18 = what? 18..36...54..

Horvat is on pace 54 points over 69 games.

13 games remaining to get to 6 points.

Once the team gets a bit healthier (beagle sutter specifically) Horvat will have less defensive responsibilities and should put up more offense.

But he is struggling and we must sell the farm to get him some overpaid help.:picard:

I personally do not believe that Stecher will command Kapanen.

Kap is lightning fast, and one of the few who can play ok defensively for them.  Not the most obvious strategic move. He also scored 44 points last year.

I further don't believe we will sell Stecher. With Tanev a looming UFA?  We have to hedge our bets. Cannot afford to go into next season with Myers as our only experienced RHD. I know the argument about Tryamkin being functional on the right.  But I prefer guys on their natural side.

If they would take Tanev?  Its a more logical deal. More solid defensively, which is what they need even more! The UFA status may be countered by him being a TO local. Likely to re-sign, perhaps even in a pre arranged condition of the deal. Tanev who we may have lost anyway, to gain a young 1st round drafted good two way forward could be worth it!

 Canucks Surfer, that sounds good.

Tanev (and Baertschi) for Kapanen (and a 4th?), and then the Canucks sign Barrie in the off season. Also, trade (or do something with) Pearson, Sutter and Eriksson

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser

Virtanen - Horvat - Kapanen

Ferland - Gaudette - Leivo

Roussel - Beagle - Motte

Schaller

Edler - Barrie

Hughes - Myers

Benn - Stecher

Juolevi - Tryamkin

Toronto has made no effort to get better defensively and if that’s what they wanted they would have kept Babs. They probably value Goldy more than Beagle or Tanev. Lol.

I can’t see the Leafs and Canucks making a trade as they both are against the cap and Vancouver is not giving up Edler or Tanev and the Leafs don’t want to give up Kappenan or any of there other wingers that are on cheap contracts and Barrie isn’t as good as the pundits have made him out to be as the Leafs got hosed in trading Kadri for Barrie as look what Kadri is doing for the Avalanche and how he can shutdown another teams top player and is the guy you lean on in the playoffs.

Why do people assume that the Leafs want defensive players? If they wanted them, they would have bought them.

Dubas wants to run 3 scoring lines and cheap spare parts for the 4th/3rd pairing.

You're aware that they just fired the guy who has been asking for different players for a while now, yea? It may have been in the news lately...

Think they were punishing him for getting a suspension last playoffs...can’t see Boston crawling back and winning that series if he was there to help their Centers and third line.   Kapanen and AJ are their best signings to date - both of them are great middle six players that can boost the top six anytime.

Barrie is turning things around the past three games.  Scored a couple goals and being what he should be ( a very good PMD).   Gives the Laffs one more shot before cap hell makes things worse.  Not a chance they trade any of their cheap guys over the next three seasons...going to have to rely on deals like Perry in Dallas to keep the ball rolling until that cap goes over 100 million.   That’s what I’d do if I was Dubas.   Also see him paying to dump any journeyman that isn’t pulling his weight too - kind of like he did with Marleau...guys like Bear and Sutter on our team (Sutter only because he can’t stay healthy).
