Great kid, but can't shake the injury bug. That's my only red flag on him. 

Saw him play oncea this past season and twice in 2014-15 and he looked like a first-round pick all 3 times. Even played well defensively. It's a shame he can't stay healthy.

Even if his tenacity has been overly hyped, his hockey IQ hasn't. He has elite level IQ on the ice, which is why he's able to consistently play with players like Matthews and Marner and open up space for them. Even if he doesn't drive the offense, he paves a nice path for others, and that isn't a player you pass on at 5.

I'm not saying we pass on him, I like his cockiness, moderate size, athletic ability (even if he isn't rough and tough on the boards) and Burrows-y ability to play with Marner a la the Twins.

I still take Dubois if both are available, but would not be unhappy with Tkachuk.

Yea Tkachuk just seems like a guy who's not gonna stop until he makes an impact. Dubois seems more docile and could fall short of his potential. I wouldn't mind PLD, but Tkachuk just screams 60pt winger who everyone hates playing against. I'd take him in the 1st, and d-men/high risk forwards with the later picks. Draft a stud 1C or 1D next year, but get our wings solidified this year. (Tkachuk, Boeser, Virtanen, and Baer)

This draft is deeper. 1st 3 spots are all at least Eichel level if not better. Beyond those 3 it's deep until around 14, with the top 6-10 being top 6 forwards or top 4 D. 

I'd trade down to about 8-9 so one of Chychrun, Julovi, or Sergachev would be available.

Why would you give up an asset (Horvat/Virtanen) who are more developed and worth more than a 10th-15th draftee? It's also redundant because if were picking top 5, were getting a player better than all of those guys.

my point is what prospects do we have that a team with a top 10 pick would want from us...?...it has nothing to do with who we would trade....i wouldn't trade any of our good young players...some people propose that we trade players we don't want for good players on other teams..that doesn't work...

IMO let's take Adam Mascherin or Luke Green or Sam Steel or Niemalainen in that range.
