My personal feeling is that Jack reminds me of RNH and Quinn will end up becoming the better NHL player. Jack only plays on half the ice surface and isn't very gutsy when the going gets rough. Im personally hoping for Kakko

@hammertime Im a really big fan of Kakko too!! Those 2 players are the ones im most excited about in the 2019 draft. 

That opinion ain't fact. And even if it was I'd sooner retain the known quantity in Tanev than flip him for a second round lottery ticket. I don't imagine we'd have much trouble signing him to an extension so it's not as if our hands are tied and we've got to get something for him.

Tanev’s trade value is moot, because we’re not trading him.  He’s on our second pair with Olli.  And that’s going to be a great pairing!!!

If that's all we get, keep him.  Prices would be likely to go up near the deadline anyway and he's an easy contract to fit with retention as a rental.  I also have no issue with keeping him around in a role similar to Salo.

@DontMessMe This is pretty close to my view on things as well. Also don't be surprised if Tkachuk is available at 7, and this would be perfect for us because he's exactly what we need to round out our young depth on forward. At the end of the day though I'd be very happy with one of Wahlstrom, Hughes, Dobson or Tkachuk. It's likely that two of these guys will be available at our selection.

Consensus is that Tkachuk goes before Wahlstrom, and that suits me fine, it sounds like Wahlstrom suits this team better.

@DontMessMe - I think you misunderstand the phrase "literally impossible". Its "literally impossible" that the Canucks pick 10th OA. It is "extremely unlikely" that the Canucks pick 9th OA.

I personally do not want Tkachuk, Boqvist, or Bouchard. 

I don't really get the love affair that people have with Bouchard. The guy is SLOW. The new NHL is all about speed and transition, not something that Bouchard is strong with. Not to mention that Bouchard is overly mature for the league he plays in which has had a direct impact on his point production. I think he has the lowest ceiling of the other D in the top 10 and has high bust potential (although not as much bust potential as Boqvist).

Eichel, I think he's got the highest ceiling and the least support. Switch him teams with either of the other two and I think you're getting more offense. Not that Rantanen and Barzal are anything to sneeze at.

Eichel.  I want the skill, but also someone who is hard to play against. The others are nice players, but too McSofty for my liking.  

But Barzal in the middle of Svech and Zadina is an elite 1st line and fking scary. Barzal playmaking with Svech and Zadina sniping man...

imo, we will have lots of players available to trade before the draft or into the summer. 

no trade is better than a bad trade. We can't fire sale our D depth and hope to be competitive next year. Vanek? we'll see. Maybe a 4th.

I wouldn't be crushed either. He hasn't shown the gusto go make it to the bigs yet am I'm starting to doubt if he has the commitment to ever make it at the NHL level.

I'd be more than happy than packaging Goldy for someone like Domi.

Don't think his added value will net much extra in return. San Jose didn't think he'd fit their roster long term, and while he made tremendous strides in his own end in Utica, that performance has yet to translate to the NHL level. We'd be selling low, so unless someone specifically asks for him I don't know what you expect to get in return that would be better than continuing to work with him and hope he gets his $&!# together.

Its going to happen though, I'm 99% certain of it. The hockey god's have a sadistic sense of humour. 

It's a tough call. On one hand, I really like what he brings to the plate as both a player and a mentor to Brock Boeser. It also helps that he's clicked really well with Boeser and Gagner. However, that magic may be more because of Boeser then anything else.

On the other hand, selling high on him does yield the most return. The problem is, Vanek has a history of being a so/so rental at the deadline so some teams may shy away from paying too much for him (just look at his tenure in Florida last season). It really depends on what he'd get the Canucks in return. If it's a 2nd or a B level prospect, I'd be happy to make a swap and convince him to come back in the summer. That and his exit does open up a spot for a guy like Goldobin who needs to play more and/or Gaudette who's bound to make the jump from NCAA to the NHL this spring.

i say  let vanek keep on point spreee max his value  ask him at deadline if he will come  back following yr  for an arranged deal  trade him at deadline for a late first  any contender nashville, tampa, caps, pens for cup run. reunite next yr with boeser   buy low sell high rinse  repeat.

As Toni Zamboni said, buy low, sell high. If we sign free agents and they get to be better than expected, trade them and sign more underdogs next year. We will not succeed with a strategy of only trading the duds. But if they can't get a good return, different story.
