I heard him on 650 today, he mentioned something about having some knee issues that he's worked though so maybe he was laying off the hits to heal up. Who knows. But if he finds a more physical side we might have a winner here.

Another nice thing about European players is that the Euro leagues are more viable for them, so if the CHL or US leagues shut down, we still have a place for them to play where they're comfortable.

That's my thinking too...the flip side is that it's taking these options off the board for Marky.

I heard weirdo Lehner had the deal tattooed on his buttocks. Was hard to sign

Wouldn't wanna sink all that commitment into this guy(better than FLA-Bob tho!). Remember him flying off the handle in one of Burr's last irascible 'Nucker-moments :^)

I'd love to see them bring in more guys who've played more recently, get rid of some of the dinosaurs it's time for fresh voices.

    3. King Heffy

      King Heffy

If anything, I'm being overly generous to Barrie.  He has not done anything over his own career to prove he has any interest of learning to actually play defense.  While some may be willing to put up with the atrocious play in his own end, I don't think that kind of play is acceptable in the NHL.  You don't win Cups with defensemen incapable or unwilling to play like NHLers in their own zone.

    4. JM_

      JM_

looking at the numbers today it looks to me like what happens is when Barrie is paired with a good partner they can really drive play but that partner has to really make up for the deficiency you point out. Man did TO ever give up a lot for the experiment.

@CanuckinEdm I think the best way to clear some cap is a) use a buyout on Sutter, and b) try to find a 3-way deal, where Loui's salary gets retained twice (see https://www.capfriendly.com/trades?multi-team) this way we might avoid giving up significant assets to dump his full contract.

    3. JM_

if you're looking at it from a cash flow pov and really need the space the year we save 2.333 then it makes sense. Putting hm in Utica is the net best option tho. It all depends on the plan for a season from now.

Buying out Sutter and Baer covers most of Tanev's new deal.

Petey became playoff Petey. Hughes... my god, what do we have there? Bo grew into the C. Demko had 3 legendary games. Despite some peoples comments I think Brock took real strides. Even Juolevi got a taste.I'm missing about a dozen other things.

Benning has a big job ahead over the next few weeks, I can't wait to see what he does but whatever it is he has so much more confidence to bet on this group than before.

    3. goalie13

      goalie13

Totally agree.  The part that always gets me with a run like this, and even more so this year, is that we were still 9 wins away.  It's such a brutal tournament that way.

Still, I like the strides the team has made and am excited for the future.

    4. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

Biggest thing to come out of this is Demko is realistic option for starting goalie.  Sorry for Markstrom, as he's played fantastic for us for a few seasons now but we're in a cap crunch.  And the upcoming expansion draft plays a factor as well.

  15. Petey now has as many career playoff points as McDavid.

  17. Is Erik Karlsson going to be the next "worst NHL contract"?

Just perusing cap friendly as was reminded he's got 7 more years at 11.5 mil until he's 37. How does that possibly work out well?

Couple years down the line most likely.  Few more hard bumps and maybe a hip or leg injury on a slighter build like himself and I could see him become really injury prone and slower.

    3. Quantum

      Quantum

It's going to be a long decade for the Sharks. Jones, Karlsson, Vlasic, and Evander Kane contracts are going to age POORLY. Jones contract is already ageing badly. Burns contract could go either way.

I suspect Karlsson will be a compliancy buyout when that next happens.

Thank god I'm not a Sharks fan - LOL.

@DontMessMe They would be stupid not to. He is a top 4dman signed long-term. If you look at the Dman who will be available, obviously you can't see all of them until FA this year, he is the top of the list of best Dman potentially available.

    3. JustABandwagoner

      JustABandwagoner

@peaches5 If I were them I would pick demko easily. Yes, there will be other good goalies available but u can always use them as trade chip.

    4. peaches5

      peaches5

@DontMessMe If they want to compete for the playoffs right now they can't be passing on Myers for an unproven goalie like Demko. Especially when he is signed and they can afford his contract. They could struggle to attract UFA's and I just think Myers has a lot more value to them.

I'll add if Demko has a ton of value then Vancouver will just trade him.

  23. A guy goes into this bar, sits down and orders a drink.  While waiting, he sees a guy sitting at the bar who has a very big muscular body but a little tiny head.  So, he asks the guy, "How is it that you have such a huge body and a small head?" The guy replied, "I was walking along the beach one day and I came across this bottle buried halfway in the sand. So I picked it up, brushed away the sand, and out popped this fine female genie. She said she would grant me three wishes for releasing her." "For my first wish, I asked for ten-million dollars, and POOF right there on the sand was $10,000,00." "For my second wish, I asked for a luxury yacht, and POOF right there on the ocean was a 90-foot yacht." "Finally for my third wish, I asked to have sex with the genie, but she said that genies were not allowed to indulge in that kind of activities."  So, I said, "c'mon, how about a little head?"

  24. If someone told me months ago that the Canucks would be 2-1 in the 1st round vs St. Louis I would have been thrilled. 3-1, I would have said you were high. But that could happen tonight.
