  1. uhh....... 4.75 for mikheyev?

  2. is anyone going to UBC to take in the dev camp this week? I normally would go (but I'm usually unemployed this time of year). I have work this week :pain:

Damn…haven’t been on that campus in decades.  I’d get lost there today.

  3. I'm kinda upset that Kjellberg didn't get drafted but whatevs

  4. bro Maxim Barbashev is still friggin available..... did he have Nail Yakupov-level interviews or something? guy guy hits like a truck

  5. I'd do Miller for Philly's 5th OA and Konecny.

I'd love to see a Domi - Horvat - Konecny line. That could provide some solid, consistent top 6 results.

The Torts hire doesn't point to a patient rebuild at all.

Holding on the 5th overall pick doesn’t necessarily mean a  rebuild. Fletcher said he wants an aggressive re-tool. They’re trying to unload some players contracts to clear cap and go hard in the open market. Konecny and Sanhiem are the names rumoured to be on the block.

  6. got my gfuel today. in the process of drinking my second shaker and my head is like.. exploding LOL. so much caffeine. my heart's racing like i just went for a monster run.

  7. Does anybody drink GFUEL? I'm thining of buying some for an after-workout jolt

      Wouldn't you want a pre-workout 'jolt'?

    2. KristoffWixenschon

The label looks like it's mostly just caffeine, artificial sweeteners and some added vitamins. No different than Monster or Redbull.

If you want something post workout, look for something with protein.

If you're looking for a pre-workout fuel, there are probably better and cheaper products out there. There are countless powders on the shelves that will cost you less over time than buying cans.

  8. Okay. This is a crazy thought I had last night but... we always see situations where D-men move up into the Forward position, right? But why don't we ever see Forwards moving back? Especially if they're pretty decent defensively, why not have a right shot forward as a RHD?

    Is that ludicrous?

How good are they at skating backwards?

I know someone who was a good skater and played a pretty good 2-way center. When he got much older and was no longer playing as competitively as before, he would get called upon to play D. He said the biggest challenge is the mental aspect of it, and it's not a trivial challenge. On the O side, you need to be a lot more patient as you're no longer the play driver but instead you're often waiting. On the D side, it's no longer good to just shutdown your man or fill the passing lanes, etc., but instead you need to be aware of everyone's positioning, and you need to always be able to communicate with others. Your motivation also has to change as instead of scoring chances you generate, you need to rejoice on how many times you prevented scoring chances. That last one is not trivial as you often don't get much credit for it; at the end of the day, it's a lot easier to look at the scoresheet and see your name there.

I switched from forward to D my first year of Bantam rep. The next year was playing junior B...I ended up loving it and played D ever after.

There is a lot to learn to just swap to D from a winger position. Especially at the NHL level. It is no easy task.

  9. My Nikolaj Ehlers for this year is for sure Rutger McGroarty. Not in terms of likeness or anything like that, but simply in how much I really like the player. Probably my favorite guy in a while!

  10. Thoughts on free agents?
Paul Stastny could be a good 1-year replacement for Dickinson on the 3rd line.

Nick Bjugstad is someone I would love to add if he makes it to FA to play in a bottom six role.

I'd take Lybushkin for a bottom pairing guy, and Kessel if he's willing to come here cheap.

I’m always like we need to get tanner out. Then I remember For a fringe second line player he’s not asking to be a first line player he’s not greedy he’s a good character guy he’s a family man. Why would you want to get rid of him.

I honestly don't think you get much maybe a 3rd to clear some cap. His contract is pretty fair value I don't think you trade a whole lot for "fair value" or it ceases to be fair value.

Great signing, he plays an old school physical style that we lack, can lay big hits. Probably just a NHL call up/7 Dman, but will be a fan favorite in Abbotsford.

Play the Laffs, & he nails Matthews? Next day's paper:

I don't get it. The dude has played such a small amount of games. There's obviously something to his game that I don't know about. Anyway, I'm not complaining.

Not the type of RD we need.

I'd sign him and trade him to Pittsburgh for Lafferty for the giggles.

  14. So, I've been out of town and away from my phone for these last couple days. Seeing the Canucks passed on Stankoven at 41 really reminds me of when they passed on Ehlers.

He seemed to transition pretty easily to the NA ice at the U18’s.  Looks to me like he’s even better on the smaller ice.  Usually that’s true for guys with elite skills, who process quick.

      @S N Y P E R S 7 Would you say Klimovich is a good pick then, based on what you've seen?

    4. S N Y P E R S 7

      S N Y P E R S 7

      @Dazzle
My guy, only time will tell. If I were picking there, my guy was Logan Stankoven. I would've taken Stankoven in the top 10.

Klimovich is a solid pick, though, and I am admittedly excited to see where he goes career-wise from here. Just looking at where he's at in comparison to the guy I compare him to the most, Alexander Radulov, he's looking good. Both guys came over from Europe to play in the QMJHL (if things go right with Klimovich) and he has the potential to dominate the Q just as Radulov did.

      Only time will tell.

I feel he's going to be a very underrated redemption project. It's probably by design that he didn't play a single game last year.

I also agree with Dazzle that I think Bowey might turn things around here.  Hopefully, Brad Shaw can work his magic and revive Bowey.

  16. This video just made me so hungy... but I need to lose weight... but I'm hungry. LOL.

Are you familiar with Allen Carr? He is a phenomenal resource for helping people rid themselves of addictions, including food. It takes just one book.

And while I don't have personal experience with this, I have heard good things about Noom.

Both focus on ways to remove or change psychological dependence.

Double yum yum!  Mrs. Alf is frying up some fired chicken as I type.  And she’s whipping up some tasty potato salad too.  Like I started with, double yum yum!  :towel:

      brilac

Ooh yeah! Double yum! I'm always hungry! I could totally go for two dinners.  You know what, I am not one of the ones who have gained weight this year.  I lost weight.  Prior, I was eating at the restaurants and drinking wine or champagne, and when that stopped, I lost weight.

  17. Broberg's skating on full display today at the U18s, Soderstrom's decision-making and responsibility on display too. While Soda isn't as dynamic a skater, his all around game is much better. Depends on what you want - an elite offensive guy in Broberg, or someone who can play D, chip in offensively, and do everything well but not one thing to an outstanding degree.

I'm really hoping Broberg falls to the Canucks.

    3. CRAZY_4_NAZZY

      CRAZY_4_NAZZY

One complaint scouts have on Broberg is despite his offensive skills, he often lacks decision making in his own zone  and is prone to turnovers.  Reminds me when Luca Sbisa was first touted in his draft year in 08, good offensive skills but has issues exiting his own zone.  Soderstrom on the other hand is far more superior in that area, but doesn't have offensive flare like Broberg.

Considering that moving the puck and making decisions in the defensive zone is what has hampered us for a while, I'm more inclined to go the safer pick and take Soderstrom.  He may be small, but Craig Button and Cam Robinson scouts on Vancouver Radio have said that Soderstrom plays bigger than his actual size and is far more engaged in his own zone than Broberg is.

      S N Y P E R S 7

Both exciting offensive guys and safe guys, defenseman-wise, are really difficult to find in free agency or trades. Can't really go wrong with either through the draft.

  18. Anyone want to talk offer sheets?

    1. goalie13

      goalie13

OK...  From proposals I have seen on here from time to time, it seems people often forget that the free agent player needs to actually accept the offer.

    2. naslund.is.king

      naslund.is.king

there hasn’t been a successful offer sheet since the Oilers signed  Penner in 07

  19. Is it strange that when Arthur Kaliyev's name comes up in conversation, my first thought is the closed Arthur fist?

  20. Real talk, though. Does Edler use Just For Men: Touch of Grey on his beard?

  21. I honestly liked seeing Pearson play with Boeser and Pettersson. I think that line should stay together, with Horvat playing with Leivo instead. Leivo and Baertschi or Spooner.
What's with all the line juggling? They're never going to find chemistry that way.

  22. So... what up everybody? Gonna be doing game recaps for the UBC Thunderbirds, and some writing for the Ubyssey on the down-low.

  23. and with that the Canucks just told us who they're going to draft... maybe? Elias Pettersson? Dahlen's linemate?
