  1. I don't even care about wins and losses. For me it's more about the overwhelming hopelessness that in this flat cap era, it could take this team 5 years just to get out of all the bad contracts before we can even have the flexibility to start to rebuild the organizational depth of prospects and picks.

But I thought Jim Benning was a 'horse whisperer' in amateur drafting!  All those Calder finalists must mean we've got a farm system full of close to ready NHL prospects!

  2. After Friedman tweeted that at the NHL scouting combine in Buffalo, the Canucks were one of the teams that asked blue-chip prospect Juraj Slafkovský, a winger who's expected to go #2 in the upcoming draft if he could play centre, the mind starts to wonder doesn't it?

Miller in a package to NJD perhaps?  Hmmm...

Imho, I personally think it's a smart move by the Canucks to buy Slafkovsky dinner and asking him to mention their interest in him as a C:

      • The Canucks are letting everyone with a high draft pick that they're serious about moving up.
      • The Canucks are letting everyone know that they're interested in potentially unloading one of their 2 centers who are going to be a free agent after next season.
      • The Canucks may be letting those 2 centers' agents that they're willing to move on if need be if the price isn't right.

Isn't New Jersey "rebuilding"?  Not sure why they'd want to go for a player who in all likelihood be too old by the time they actually get competative.

  3. Oh how I've longed to hear these words from a Canuck executive:

“Our vision and our goal is more than just the next couple of weeks,” said Allvin. “As we’ve said, we want to create some cap space. We want to get younger. I think we accomplished that here. ”

Trading Hamonic was a good move to get that 3rd round pick.  But then trading the other 3rd round pick for a 25 year old 3rd pairing Dman is what got Benning into trouble and what everyone was complaining about in regards to asset management.  When Allvin does the same thing it is totally fine though.  As for Motte, he would have helped us at least try and compete for a playoff spot.  Richardson on the other hand is a few years away from his pension and isn't much of an upgrade on any of the plugs we have in Abby.

rumour was they were pushing hard to trade Pearson and myers, imo I think that is exactly what we need to do, I know myers fills a big need but he is not a top pairing d man, he played admirably in the bubble and for the first 30 games of the BB era but he is too mistake prone to be a top pair d man on a good team and he is too expensive to be a 2nd pair d man, I so hope these guys can be moved in offseason just to free up cap space, that would be >9 mill and tbh I think there are utility players out there who can fill Pearsons role for around 1 mil

I expect a lot of changes over the summer to address cap flexibility, including changing up the leadership of the team. No guarantee that Bruce there it is will be brought back either as he wasn't the choice of this management team and didn't exactly get an endorsement from Allvin when asked about it in the last couple of days.

Should make for an interesting summer round these parts.

One would think he's earned a spot. It would be really hard to pass on Gaud just to keep lazy guys like Goldy and Schaller from waivers. A contract shouldn't mean a roster spot.

      Fantomex

@Ossi Vaananen Couldn't agree more. Time to cut ties with the dead weight. JB has done it before, let us hope he does so again!

    4. Alflives

      Alflives

Will JB put his money (Aquilini's) where his mouth is?  I'm really hoping the message is clear that this team is about winning (that's what the signing of Myers, and Ferland, and Benn, and the trade for Miller are about)  Management has said we are in the win now mode.  It's obvious that Gaud will help the team achieve that goal.

  6. Sad to hear that Brock's dads' cancer has come back. Can someone please find a God-Damned cure???

@Brad Marchand  Is a team that can’t spend a lot of money and is propped up by the rest of the league.  My grandmother can be a GM of that club and not do worse.....and she passed away a decade ago.

      Hip Hip Hooray for Petey,

I am so glad for our new humble star and glad that the league in general knows talent when they see it.

      Congratulations to Elias Pettersson.

  10. I still can't make any sense of why the Canucks would want Lucic. ANY. When every other team in the league is trying to add speed and grit. Does JB think that THIS is the move that will save his job?

I would take Lucic over Eriksson in a heart beat. D'ya recall that push we made after the losing streak where we were in a playoff race and what did Eriksson do...crickets!

He was awfull when we most needed him with those scoring chances, unforgiveable!

    4. King Heffy

Hell, I can't make sense of why Milan's parents would want Lucic.

  11. Watching the Bruins tonight whine about non-calls against them was strangely satisfying. The ironing was definitely delicious.

sure I get you about karma, but I don't hold grudges, life is too short!  2011 was a lifetime ago. there has been a lot of hockey since then.

And the Bruins are still a bunch of gutless, cheap shoting floppers that cry like babies when they get exposed for the cowards that they are.  Love seeing these goofs get what they deserve.

The fans here in Vancouver must be frustrated with a fourth year in a row of utter BS,NO SKILL INVOLVED DRAFT LOTTO.

I know that I'm very dissappointed that we do not get the LUCKY OF THE DRAW!

AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.AND AGAIN.

      IT STINKS ON ICE.

      MJDDawg

@DADDYROCKYou can't even believe how frustrated I am. No lottery luck at all. EVER!! Meanwhile the Blackhawks, who've won 3 Cups in the last few years and who still have a good team jump 9 EFFING spots into the top 3. The Devils jumping up to win the lottery twice in the last three years.  I mean FFS hockey Gods... C'MON MAN!

  13. Canucks extend the Utica Comets AHL affiliate deal for up to 6 more years.  Sweet! Really glad they're staying there and not under a daily microscope here.

The Aquillini's own the team and former Flyers Goalie Robert Esche leases it so this ain't surprising.

One of the most profitable teams in the AHL despite being a mediocre product.

  14. I watched the Joe Theismann injury live when it happened 33 years ago and I still can't watch the highlights of it to this day. Now in the last two days I've had to watch that gruesome Alex Smith injury and now the Trochek injury. Brutal.

  21. The dream is dead. Can only hope we remain in the top 7 now. Bouchard, Boqvist or Dobson would be nice consolation prizes. Now watch us win out.  D'oh!!

@The 5th Line I'm pretty sure most of us would like to finish as low as possible, I just really dont get the people  are mad at a win.... Like there is no way we could try and lose harder with this team. Jokinen was our top line rw yesterday... i believed he was waived by Columbus and not picked up by anyone. I just dont see how we could tank any harder, apart from pulling our goalie when we're ahead or not shooting it when we have an open net, or just plain not even try

    3. combover

      combover

Finisihing last DOES guarantee a top 4 pick.

The best is when all the ones that think these wins mean anything come here and cry and complain when we lose the lottery and draft 9th. And get to select a player 3-4 years away from even being in the nhl.

Then they can revisit these pointless victories.

I don’t get mad when we win but I see more value and long term gains in losing at this point.

Sure hope Judd Bracket can scout and draft some more gems for us.

As for a losing environment do you mean like 3 of 4 years finish near last. But yeah we should worry about the last ten games of yet another loser season.lol.

I expected it in the Toronto Columbus game as well, to be honest, and was a little surprised when they didn't do one. I guess it happened a bit too close to game time for them to know enough details to warrant one.
