JohnLocke
Imagine this, it's crazy and off the cuff but might just work. 1. Trade Schneider for Nail Yakupov + 7th overall, draft Nichushkin. 2. Trade Luongo + Edler For 11th Overall, draft Nikita Zadorov (6'5 230lbs LH D) 3. Trade Ballard & Booth as cap dumps 4. Sign Ilya Bryzgalov for 4 years, 2.875 Million cap hit (this amounts to 11.5 million over 4 years which is the 1/3 difference between his buyout payment and what he doesn't get) #1 is self explanatory #2 is also self explanatory #3 is also self explanatory #4 is the pickle. Bryzgalov has shown that he's a very good goalie when put into the right system. Anaheim and Phoenix proved this as they were team oriented defensive teams (Carlyle & Tippet). With Tortorella preaching team defense, I think Bryzgalov would be a natural fit, it's not long term and allows time for Lack or Eriksson to develop properly, plus he has said in the past Vancouver is a place he would want to play; not only is he a good player when he's comfortable but he can help mentor the young Russians and get them acclimated. The following line up isnt a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th line. It's a 1A and 1B lines, and elite 3A and 3B lines. SERIOUS depth: Sedin - Sedin - Kassian 13.070 (6.100/6.100/0.870) Nichushkin - Kesler - Yakupov 12.550 (3.775/5.000/3.775) Burrows - Gaunce - Higgins 8.057 (4.5/1.057/2.5) Jensen - Lain - Hansen 3.213 (0.863/1.000/1.350) Depth Forward 0.750 Hamhuis - Bieksa 9.100 (4.500/4.600) Zadorov - Garrison 8.375 (3.775/4.600) Scuderi - Tanev 4.5 (2.500/2.000) Depth D-Man 0.750 Bryzgalov 2.875 Eriksson 0.925 Total cap for 22 man roster: 64.165 (0.135 Cap space)

VanGnome
The return for Scheneider wouldn't even be that good. One way or another teams know the Canucks are dealing out of place of desperation and that is not a recipe for a solid return. Trading Corey for a draft pick makes absolutely no sense either because it doesn't help them in the shortrun and the only possible rationale for keeping Lou instead is to win in the shortrun. But, guess what? The Canucks aren't good enough to win in the shortrun anyways. They should be beginning their retool now while still trying to remain competitive. They can't do that by keeping Lou though because there is a good chance Lou will only be a effective goalie for 3 more years in the league. His play is already on the decline and if the Canucks do keep him they will still be stuck with his horrible contract which under the new CBA will be an albatross around the teams neck for years to come. The Canucks have to get out from under Lou's contract ASAP. Since it is obvious that no other teams want him that means buyout. In the longrun $27 million would seem cheap in comparsion to having a old goalie who can't play anymore in 3 years but still has 5 years left on his contract. Ghostsof1915
Why would we try drafting Russian players, who could have a breakout second year in the NHL only to have the KHL offer them a $10 million dollar contract. No thanks. Too much risk.
Fanuck
Desperation is a two way street. All Gillis has to do is point out the sheer number of teams that NEED a number 1 goalie, and the underwhelming lack of supply and say "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!" theminister
If this came from Bobby Mac it would be worth listening to but it's not. Bobbo made it clear it was 'As per Dreger.' Bobby Mac is careful not to report things he doesn't have a good source for. Dreger.... not so much.
WillyFox
Better start at 1st top six player and a prospect
Sergei Shirokov
I'd be happy if we could nab the 7th overall and maybe a C or B level prospect for schneider. We are not going to get one of their young stars and a 1st rnd pick.
Ghostsof1915
it's not even funny how many Canuck fans actually think a deal like this is possible
sexpanther
I don't hate LU, and preffer Schneider as our #1, but I do hate that we would lose a quality goaltender for nothing when Schneids could bring us a massive return. He could help re-stock the prospect pool significantly. Would rather trade him to an east coast team though.

Kooner91
Imagine Yakupov being set up by the Sedin's.. I'm guessing the deal would be Gagner+7th overall for Schneider+pick. Oilers won't trade both Yak and the 7th for Schneider alone. Maybe Yakupov+7th for Schneider+Van conditional 2014 1st (if Oilers make the playoffs, we keep it). Something along those lines..
