[Report] Corey Schneider is in play

Also: don't be shocked to your core if both goalies are gone in a week. Just a creeping thought, but if we get rid of both Lu and Cory and bring in valuable assets galore and sign one of the FA goalies, who knows right? the 9.33m goaltending cap hit could be gone and replaced with a 5million cap hit combined for the starter and the backup, while we stock up on picks prospects and fill a few holes up front.

1. Eberle has a cap hit of $6 million a year....you'd be increasing the cap problems we have.

2. If Schneider went to Florida, Luongo would probably just not report to the team, think on that. His backup going to his home...

3. Trading to a divisional rival on the cusp of competing is suicide. Edmonton could load up on defensemen and bring up prospects like Klefbom and then we'd be competing against a young hungry offensive juggernaut with a solid goalie with something to prove.

4. Possible to move both goalies and go with a 1b tender for a season or an angry Bryz at cheap cost and run with Eriksson/Lack.

5. Yakupov and a 7th would be a dream return as the canucks have not had a sniper since Bure and setting him with the twins would be cool indeed setting what they could accomplish with a genuine scoring threat.

6. If we had the 7th overall or even the 11th or even the 15th you'd be crazy trying to give them both up as id much rather have 2 1st round picks this year than one. You've a 50/50 shot of a good player at that point.

These are just common sense thoughts I think regarding what people are saying here, without even addressing the defensive issues that could be developing regarding Ballard and Edler.

Cheers and happy draft day all

I think Schneider always has been in play. It was a question of if and when.

Gillis had a preference of which goalie he wanted to move. Why would he talk about moving an asset which he would prefer to keep, rather than talk up a deal for the asset which he would prefer to move? If you had Luongo and Schneider, and you wanted to trade Luongo, why would you ever openly talk about moving Schneider?

The team is now at a point in time where being more open about trading Schneider is an acceptable option, due to the deadline of the upcoming entry draft.

No big deal.

regards,

G.
