Bo Horvat | #53 | C

Bo just has to play his game, which is more than just being defensively strong obviously.

I think the discussion between us has run its course. I'm excited to see what he could do.

I will say though, I think the one thing he brings that perhaps some of our other options at that position don't bring is an opportunity to improve.

Vey could improve, but as far as Matthias & Richardson go, what those guys can bring is what they can bring, Horvat could grow alot over the year like say Couturier did in his first year, you never know right, so that's the upside to having him up here.

Though I do think he is capable of legitimately helping us win right now, we will just have to see though.

Wouldn't want to argue against sound and respectful responses like yours. I agree that we are all just anxiously waiting to see what he can do.

did you just speculate that the speculation will increase?

My mantra is, when you have a chance to go meta, always take it. Edited by Dasein

Bo clearly isn't ready for the AHL, why do people insist on him playing in the NHL at 19 years old?

It was explained pretty well by Valk that a player shouldn't win a spot on the team based on face-offs alone. That's the only thing Horvat is an upgrade in (if those face-off numbers even translate to the NHL consistently).

I bet you say that and you haven't even watch 1 AHL game. You base your opinion solely on the fact Horvat got 0 points.

Nobody really insist he play at 19 years old, no matter what, I think we are just all excited to see him play at the pro, but until we do, we can't say for sure if he should stay or go. And I agree he can't make the team base on faceoff alone, that would be stupid.

But if he's not a liability and doesn't have to be sheltered....why not?

If you listened Valk also said he didn't watch any of the Utica games. So take his opinion of this with a grain of sea salt.

So Bo on the 4th line? Is that what we are assuming? I really don't know what to think

I was under the impression they wanted him at center, but vey has been a fantastic 4th line center and hasn't shown well on the wing.

I think we should mix it up more and change that train wreck of a 2nd line with Hansen on it

Sedin Sedin vrbata

Richardson bonino Higgins

Matthias Horvat kassian

Dorset vey Hansen

Guesses on Ice time tomorrow? Id say 7 ish minutes is probably what I'd expect

Under 10 for sure. It's going to be a 4-game road trip with a visit through California. If they plan to play him through all 4 games, I'd expect him to be kept sub-10. I guess it also depends on how the team is doing during the game.

Points matter though. Like, a lot.

Coming out of that Utica stretch with exactly ZERO points didn't just prove that he's not ready for the NHL, it proved that he's probably below other guys in the pecking order.

Let's say he proves to be defensively sound and puts up zero points in the NHL too. Would you consider him a liability? I certainly would. He'd be an offensive liability in a team that is currently getting production from all 4 lines and needs all the scoring it can get.

I agree that it's exciting to see prospects debut in the NHL but Horvat needs to go through the motions too. He hasn't shown anything to prove he's even remotely ready to regularly feature in the NHL. And all this is said without mentioning the fact that his biggest asset, face-offs, will undoubtedly decrease due to facing much higher competition in the NHL.

I would say Bo's TOI totally depends on the score going into the 3rd period. On such a gruelling road trip, we would want to distribute ice time as evenly as possible and rest the Sedins when we can.

A 2+goal lead/3+goal deficit would see Bo into the 10+ minutes. Anything in the 1-goal range or tie game would see him in single digits.

People saying he shouldn't make the team just for winning faceoffs, but I beg to differ. I think he should make the team if he dominates in the dot. It's something our team is bad in and desperately needs a face off expert. Other teams have a face off specialist on there team for that reason alone. It's not like he's bad in other areas, if I were him I'd focus on that role cuz it's something the canucks need

A whole lot of assumptions being made in here today...

I tink he will play 62 minutes a game, take ever single face-off for us (bcuz he is face-off god), score a hat-trick every period(lol) and shutdown Kopitarz, Gezlaf, and all da bess players. :emot-parrot:

and at end of nine games he evolves in to Sidney (Bill) Crosbee. :emot-parrot:

A whole lot of assumptions being made in here today...

Saying that he's gonna underwhelm in the NHL based on his stretch in the AHL is not an assumption, it's being logical. Also, saying that his face off percentage is not gonna be as good in the NHL as it was in the OHL isn't only logical but definitive too.

Frankly, saying the contrary is being hopeful and deluded. Unless, of course, you suppose that he's all of a sudden gonna improve tenfold against the Cali teams...
