Yep, but our snag, is the comfort of profession: we lose out to the east coast US franchises, where travel is a lot easier to deal with. Different perks, i suppose.

Can't be too bad being a millionaire flying first class on private jets... fully catered and having everything taken care of for you.

Yea, but some people would rather spend the hundreds of hours extra traveling, doing something else. thats what i am saying, is Vancouver's drawback.

We are a more travel-oriented workspace, compared to NJD/NY teams for eg.

Well said, this season is going to be a new start for a lot of players. Gudbranson is first, never really got watch him play for the full season due to injuries. He wasn't too impressive but this season is his new start. Same goes for Granlund, injured wrist never saw him play healthy, now we can see him at his full potential. Same goes for Rodin. Jake Virtanen, he's improved into a better player, this is going to be his new start. Boeser, hopefully we can watch him play this season. We have a lot to be excited for this season. However I think Guddy will be the most important defencemen for us, we need a defencemen like him input team.

I agree with your post, Gudbranson could make a big difference if he plays the way he did at end of 2015-2016 season in Florida..

We have lacked toughness on defence for years..Very excited with the team now and in 3 years with these prospect coming up..

Yes I agreeBut Gudbranson can fight with heavyweights...Cant imagine if Bieksa had Gudbranson"s size and weight...Would be a scary Bieksa..Both great leadership..

Bieksa tough guy for 6'0 195 lbs

Kevin Bieksa had/has more offence in his game than Gudbranson. I do expect a great season from Guddy.

Accurate.   I am a huge Panther's fan and caught as many games of theirs over the years as internet allowed and he was a beast in many ways in Florida and dominant at times but never in terms of creating offence.   He struggles to make good moves in the other end but makes up for it by his play in his own end, massive hits and best interviews on the team. Just don't count on him to be your power play specialist.

I think sometimes people forget that not every defenseman needs to be an offensive force.

I really liked Gudbranson's game tonight for the most part. He deaded the play pretty heavily. I imagine it'll get better as he gets more of the rust off.

And that's against the league feared big and heavy forecheck of the Kings. He was able to keep up and compete with their team.

The most encouraging thing for me is that he seemed to be looking for contact, even in the neutral zone a few times (one big collision in particular, can't remember against who). That should be a sign that A) his wrist isn't on his mind at all, B ) he's pretty confident in his ability to step up, lay a big hit, and still keep a proper team defensive shape.

It's not offense by any means, but it's a bit more adventuresome on his part compared to what I saw last year.

He looked quite quick to me too - he has always been an awesome skater for such a big man but not that quick on first step and he looked quick yesterday.   I wonder if that is what he worked on during wrist rehab?

Hard to say.  At 25, Bieksa played his first season in the NHL - 6 points in 36 games.  Last year, at 24-25, Gudbranson had 6 in 30.  Bieksa's break out year was the next season with 42 points in 81 games.  I still agree that they play a different style of game, but we won't know what we have with Gudbranson for a couple of years yet.  He did have some solid point production in the OHL.

I don't understand why so many People here are "frustrated" about Guddy. It's official that he played with a injury the most time of the last season.. calm down guys!

It's always tough for a Player to Play in a new City, with new teammates and a Coach who gives Megna and Chaput NHL time.

Some need immediate results and anything less is abject failure.

Others refer to the stat sheets and Fenwick/Corsi as the only way to gauge Gudbranson's worth.

Both conveniently pass over the facts you've presented as it doesn't serve their pointed narrative.

Having a defenseman with his capabilities is crucial for any team. Not every defenseman will be an offensive force, weaving through the opposition and potting 30 goals. Some defensemen need to provide security for the goalie and pain for the opposition. I think Linden, Benning, and Green realize how valuable a defenseman of Gudbranson's stature and capability is, and don't pay any mind to the peanut gallery.

I liked the way he played in Beijing. Sure, he wasn't perfect and lost his cover couple of times but I'd say he showed what he brings to the team, and that's physicality and athleticism. To me, Gudbranson is #3 among our RHD depth, behind Tanev and Stecher. He won't move the puck out like Stecher (good at skating it out) or Tanev (good at holding on to the puck for finding the best timing for an outlet pass) but neither did Willie Mitchell. And Gudbranson as a bottom pair on a non contending team is definitely good by me. I think with a healthy season, he will be able to demonstrate his value to the team. The guy is still young and with additional focus to playing the simple defensive game, I think he can be our Willie Mitchell down the road and can be paired up with more offensively minded defenceman if we ever draft one (I guess one can argue that we already have one in Juolevi).

I like Gudy, and I think our right side is the strong side for us, we have an offensive dynamo, a defensive god, and a physical (and handsome) stay at home guy. Perfect for all sitiatins.
