The Great Canucks
Because of his surgery, I can see him starting down in Utica at first. Probably by the trade deadline, he could have a permanent spot on the Canucks.

Kootenay Gold
I am expecting Juolevi to start in Utica as well but very much doubt he will be there for long. Would rather see him getting lots of ice time on the farm than sitting on the bench as the 7th d-man to start this season. IMO MDZ Hutton or Pouliot will be moved by the trade deadline if not before.

BrazilianCanuck
I'm hoping that he has a nice pre-season. Young stars will be a nice place to start.
Gaudette Celly
Sounded like he's coming in ready to go, been working out full-on for a while now.

I'd wager MDZ being moved is all but assured. I also doubt both Hutton and Pouliot survive the year. Edler I'd not be surprised to see re-signed honestly. Doubt he waives and I doubt he just walks. He is only 32 so I am betting he might be re-signed for 2 to 3 more years But probably with a MTC instead of a full NTC.

As for Juolevi, it all depends on his physical readiness. If he's 100% and shows well in the pre-season, there's no reason to think he won't earn a spot. If he's not at full readiness, I think he starts in Utica. I don't think he's there for long if he proves himself and our defense falters. His ceiling is higher than any incumbent on the team.....period.
kenhodgejr
I expect Juolevi to play at 215 pounds when he is finished growing. At 6'3 that would make him the same size as Sami Salo, Olli Jokinen and Alex Edler Thats a good size for the NHL. I hope he takes Del Zotto's spot Edler Stetcher Juolevi Tanev Hutton Gudbranson
-Vintage Canuck-
Ryan Johnson on Sportsnet 650: "Olli is a confident kid & thinks the game incredibly well. We'd like to see him be a bit more aggressive in the defensive zone play now that he's learned playing with men. He's taken a great step in that last year and we expect to see that progression continue."

He may start slow due to surgery and all but he needs to take the step this year into the NHL and solidify himself in our bottom 4. Preferably this year we'd see at least one of Hutton or Pouliot take big steps in their development and show they can be top 4 guys. Then you'd trade one of or both Edler and Del Zotto at the deadline. Perhaps make a trade in which we take back an old veteran LD cap dump. Someone like Andy Greene or Marc Methot. why does a 20 year old defenceman who hasn't played a single ahl game NEED to step into the nhl this year? I do think that pairing Juolevi with both Tanev and Gudbranson at different times would benefit him. Tanev could show him the fundamentals of defensive awareness, and Gudbranson could acclimate him to the more physical aspects of the game in the NHL. 1

Popular Post R3aL
Best performance I've seen of Juolevi in Canucks colours. It was expected, but regardless was nice to see. Looked like he dangled a guy inside out as well. was firing pucks on net, making nice passes and was smart postiionally in his own end. Liked what I saw from him tonight
Popular Post CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Thought the biggest thing of OJ's game I really liked was how because of his high IQ, he was not only anticipating the play, but he stepped up to make solid pinches at the blueline, and was assertive defensively. Quietly was the guy who really steered the ship on the backend for the Canucks tonight. 1 2
