Season 2 is supposed to suck.

I watched season 1 of Goliath, and it was decent...but after reading how poor season 2 is, I just decided to stop there.

On the other hand, I just finished season 3 of Cobra Kai. Truly awesome - even better than the first 2!

Yeah, watched season 1, which was phenomenal.

Not going to watch season 2. Season 1 is its own story, so there's no reason to watch the 2nd.

The Queen's Gambit

Frickin solid. Anya Taylor Joy has only put in one stinker in her young career, but this might be her most solid performance to date; which is saying something considering how she was in The Witch and Thoroughbreds.

Netflix miniseries which spans about 10-12 years, from the age of 8-20 (I think). 50s and 60s era. Follows a orphaned child chess prodigy as she rises the ranks in the US and world, while battling addiction and demons. While not a true story, that doesn't take away from how terrific the story is. Right up there as one of the best "sports" movies or TV shows of all time. Incredibly well done.

Please refrain from bold texting your reviews no matter how much you likey

Gone: Missing & Murdered Women of Ohio

Wow. Don't let the "defund the police" crowd see that one. Jesus Christ the cops are corrupt. The whole system is putrid.

I watched a series called The Pharmacist last week and came up with the same conclusion. Basically a man ends up solving his son's own murder and then takes down a pill mill where the doctor has her own police escort. The amount of police corruption in the states, and the world for that matter, is most likely far worse than we will ever know.

Just finished all these veterans shows like Breaking Bad, Lost, Walking Dead and GOT during quarantine and now I feel like I have nothing to do .

Best or underrated shows out now?

Better Call Saul is excellent. The Bodyguard (Netflix) is also an outstanding single series.

If you like Sci-Fi, The Expanse (Prime) is in a league of its own. First half of season 1 is a slog though, but by the end of season 1 it’s awesome.

LOVE on netflix. 0 out of 10 if you hate awkward comedies 10 out of 10 if you like them.

The co-lead Gus played by Paul Rust is a very Akward young, single 30 something nice guy. He plays the role perfectly, and at times the cringe level is unbearable.

The co Lead Mickey Played by Jillian Jacobs is your classic Bad girl, struggling alcoholic who always chooses the wrong guy, or at least thats what she keeps telling herself.  Her Past Boyfriend's make frequent appearance's causing shenaigans in her life.

Together, they meet by chance and become friends after a day spent together where each other help one another out.

Castlevania season 4. Great adaptation. Great series.

Pretty dark and emotional story. It's an anime not for the faint of the heart but if you can stomach dark themes/scenes it has a great story.

If there's any scene i'd show you to assure you of the quality of this series it would be this.

Mare of Easttown.

If you're looking for an upbeat mini-series that will make you feel good all over in these troubled times you should probably avoid "Mare of Easttown" on HBO.

I mean, good Lord, the people in this town.  Everyone seems to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

That being said, I enjoyed the seven part series.  Not a great series, and a tad over-wrought, but I enjoyed it.  And it stars Kate Winslet (and who doesn't like Kate Winslet) who puts in a very good performance as a detective (who seems to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown) investigating the murder of a young woman.

Mare of Easttown: 8/10

Did a great job of capturing what it's like to grow up in a small working class town (and not like the shows/movies that try to make some suburb of Boston into some small town).

Hacks: 8/10

Jean Smart (also in Mare of Easttown) is so god damn funny. Watched this entirely based on her performance in Mare. It's about a stand-up comic, but it's not really about standup. In fact, I don't really find the stand-up bits that funny (they're a small part of the show) and I think this was done on purpose. It's the interactions between characters that made me laugh.

The Last Kingdom (Netflix): 9/10

Takes place in the 9th century, during the Viking age. Kind of runs off of the end of the timeline of the show "Vikings". Based very loosely on fact, but a good watch start to finish, 4 seasons, and they're making a 5th one. Lots of battle scenes, decent dialogue, good plot. Binge worthy.

Amazon's Lord of the Rings prequel series: Everything you need to know

A sprawling, insanely pricey fantasy TV series based on a fictional universe introduced in a series of incredibly popular and famously long and complex books? And books, at that, by an author with a double-R middle initial? No, it's not George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. It's a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings saga, soon to become an Amazon Prime original series.

Don't expect a retread of familiar territory. Amazon isn't going to remake the LOTR series that was last seen as several Peter Jackson-directed movies. Though this series, like the film saga, will be set in Tolkien's Middle-earth, the company says the original storylines will come from a time period preceding The Fellowship of the Ring

And the series cost a lot of silver coin, or whatever the monetary unit is in pre-LOTR Middle-earth. Deadline reported Amazon paid close to $250 million for the rights, making it the most expensive TV series ever. That doesn't, of course, include the money it'll cost to hire the actors and crew and actually make the show. The Hollywood Reporter speculates the whole shebang could cost more than $1 billion.

The show revealed its first somewhat mysterious photo in August 2021, also revealing that the show will be released on Sept. 2, 2022.

The series is set in Tolkien's Second Age, thousands of years before The Hobbit and LOTR.

And while I'm here:

Just finished watching HBO's six part mini-series "The White Lotus".

It's about a group of rich people who travel for a one week vacation in Hawaii at a luxury resort - the White Lotus.

We learn early in the series that someone has died during the stay but this isn't really a murder mystery show.  It's more of a character study of the rich tourists and some of the staff working to accomodate them.

While there were a couple of scenes I could have done without, on the whole I enjoyed it.  Great acting and writing.
