Guest
Short-term pain for long-term gain. Shame Vegas didn't sign him long-term now, it'll cost them at least $2m AAV by next summer.
Warhippy
Dorion....7.25 million for stone. Cammon man
JM_
It'll be interesting to watch and see what he does... 9 goal career high to 43 is quite something. Still RFA at the end of this contract too.
coryberg
It's a show me (that again) contract.
Drakrami
Wow Vegas is pretty good being able to negotiate an end of 1 year RFA deal. 5.25mil to boot! Vegas is very conservative team with their contract signings.
JeremyCuddles
Good deal, you can't throw term at this guy just yet. Last year was a huge breakout season, but I'd be incredibly hesitant to throw bank and term at him if I were a GM. Good luck to him. Have a soft spot for Swedes. Would like to see him keep up his good play.
DonaldBrashear
If he manages to put up 50 next year, then he will be re-signed for at least $9 million a year
NHL'er
Could get two William Karlsson's for 84% of one Connor McDavid.
rekker
Good deal for both sides and now an important year for Karlsson to show last year wasn't a fluke. How he performs this year will mean millions. Perhaps double digit millions. Will be interesting to watch.
guntrix
Good on Vegas for not precipitating his contract long-term based on one season. Dude's gotta prove he's the real deal.
Fanuck
If he attains 40+ g again next season he'll be looking at a career-defining, long-term contract. Question is though, what does Vegas do if he comes back down to earth and gets in the lower 20g range next season?
RRypien37
Smart move by Vegas. Would be quite surprised if he puts up the same amount of goals next season. Shrewd calculated risk.
Losing With Pride
I can't see him repeating the same performance. My guess 25 goals 30 assists. 55 points.

Karlsson's contract is about as close to a bridge deal as you can get. If he repeats his last season he will get over $7M.

6string
Good signing, this may help LVK end their long drought of one year with out a Stanley Cup.
richado
It felt like a lot of the players on Vegas were riding some sort of emotional wave. The amount of players that had major career highs relative to their previous stats seems to show it. It's hard to think that they all collectively reached a new level that they will sustain. For Karlsson, I'm thinking a 50-60 point season, with somewhere between 20-35 goals. I think that whole team is gonna come back down to earth. A bunch of guys told me about the legend of Scott Bjugstad. With the Minnesota North (Dallas) Stars, Bjugstad scored 43 times in 1985-1986. While he barely played half the season the following year, Bjugstad finished with 4 goals in 39 games. Bjugstad spent the rest of his NHL career never coming close to that 43 mark and, in fact, scored a TOTAL of 22 goals over the next six years....barely 3 per season..... that's a drop of 40.
