Western Separatism

Searched...couldn't find anything so...

Western Separatism...what do we call our new country? Assuming we take everything west of the Manitoba / Ontario border...can we survive (especially with oil so low)?

This is obviously a bit tongue-in-cheek but...years ago in college I suggested that the North American "founding fathers" blundered big-time to wit:

Look at a map of North America (Canada / US to be specific). Erase the border at the 49th parallel and instead of it running East-West, change it to North-South.

Start at Hudson's Bay (Manitoba - Ontario border already in place). Trace down the Minnesota / Dakotas border and continue southward on the East side of Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma, finishing off on the Texas / Louisiana border down to the Gulf of Mexico near Sabine Lake.

We would have in the West:

Alaska / Yukon / NWT (Oil, gold, diamonds, Hudson's Bay access to Atlantic)

BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (Oil, tourism, agriculture, Pacific Ocean, Pacific Rim trade)

14 of the contiguous US States...and maybe Hawaii too (or just give them back their independence)

Of course we would also inherit some powder keg situations as well (Mexican border drug wars, half of the west being on fire each summer, "poorer" states such as Nebraska, Wyoming and the Dakotas (save for shale-oil...but then there's that pesky "fracing" to get that oil)...and I suppose we'd have to take Utah along with the deal...so there's that too.

Anyways...so BC / Alberta, you ready to team up and take down Confederation?

Treasonous thoughts...treasonous thoughts...

Nothing.
No seperatism whatsoever. Infact, weaken the provinces further. Canada. I'd happily vote for a government that makes squishing nimby-istic provincialism propaganda as a matter of state policy. The end.

Whats in it for BC?

First off, as BC I'm holding out for more than 50% of the revenue from any oil shipped off the coast, so right off the bat you're worse off. But lets say you REALLY hate Ottawa and agree to my 60/40 split in BCs favour.  At todays, and the foreseeable future, pricing when its all said and done we're probably talking 1 billion per year extra to BC, which may or may not be enough to offset the risks and pay the cut the first nations and angry fishermen will demand.

But lets say I'm feeling generous and I agree to take AB to the cleaners.

You now have to face the reality that you just teamed up with about 2.1 million NDP+Green voters.

So oil gets shut down anyway.

Lets face it, you're one land-locked sh!t-outta-luck cowpoke.

I agree with @canuckistani but to play along here I'd be more in favor of AB and Sask  forming an alliance and forcing the City of Vancouver into a Hong Kong type scenario.  Or maybe Ab and Sk could just form an alliance with the states along the Keystone pipeline route to the gulf coast.  Coastal loons can be left to themselves and the migrant caravans of course.
