Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has acquired goaltender Marek Mazanec from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Mazanec, 27, has appeared in 20 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack this season posting a record of 7-8-3 along with a .903 save percentage and 3.01 GAA. He has appeared in 31 career NHL games over parts of three seasons, all with Nashville, posting an 8-13-4 record, along with a 2.98 GAA, a .895 save percentage, and two shutouts.

Mazanec was named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for November of 2013, as he posted a 5-4-1 record, along with a 2.00 GAA, a .932 save percentage, and two shutouts in 10 appearances during the month.

The 6-4, 187-pounder also appeared in 23 games with HC Slovan Bratislava of the KHL in 2017.18, posting a 3.40 GAA and a .899 save percentage.

In addition to his NHL experience, Mazanec has appeared in 205 AHL games, posting a 100-74-22 record, along with a 2.67 GAA, a .908 save percentage, and 11 shutouts.

The Pisek, Czech Republic, native was originally selected by Nashville in the sixth round, 179th overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

And why wasn’t this done when Demko got injured?  Why call up Dipietro, and perhaps ruin a prospect’s confidence by putting him way over his head, when we could have given up a seventh round pick?

If one game of weird bounces ruined dipietros confidence he was never gonna make it anyways.

Sharks felt pity for him (they even said so in the post game interviews).  They really could’ve embarrassed him last night.  Good thing Benning made a move to prevent that from happening again.

DiPietro's not the one who should be embarrassed.  Our defense hung the poor kid out to dry.  Hopefully we can get some form of pick back for Pouliot.

Seriously, if this guy only cost a 2020 seventh round pick, why didn’t JB do this instead of risking Dipietro’s future confidence?

24 shots, that's all the D let by. DiPietro is a small goalie who gave up way too much net. I know we love the guy and we're all pulling for him, but let's be realistic. He's not an NHL goalie (yet).

Don't know who this Mazanec guy is, but he's got size and NHL experienced. We'll take him!
