It’s an exciting time to play for the Vancouver Canucks. It’s a new era for our team and there’s a feeling of optimism in the dressing room that we haven’t felt in years. Based on the atmosphere at Rogers Arena, we’re guessing you can feel it too.

We’re back in the hunt and it’s going to be fun to see how we measure up down the stretch. We’re a young team that’s building confidence every shift, using each game as an opportunity to learn what it takes to win. The whole team is buying in, and it’s exciting getting to play in these meaningful games.

We also know this is just the beginning. Jim and Travis have a long-term plan in place and this team is on the right path. The momentum is real and the future is very bright.

On behalf of all the players, thank you for your incredible support. Whether you’re new, or you have been with us for years, you are our home ice advantage. You make it special to represent Vancouver and to put on the jersey. We’re committed to playing our hearts out for you each and every night, and we can’t wait for the many exciting years to come.

Details about next season will be coming soon. Thank you for your support and we'll see you at the rink next year.

Your leadership team:

Bo Horvat, Alex Edler, Brandon Sutter and Chris Tanev

Guess that means Sutter is not getting traded next year!

He is an important piece moving forward with great character.

Pfft, this changes nothing. They are all assistant captains which is why they signed.

Need room for Gaudette to play regular minutes next season. Beagle isn't getting traded so either they slide Sutter to the wing or trade him. Id say its 50/50. Winger or gone.

It's a better letter than when Mike Gillis was bragging about signing Dane Fox.

Hard to believe he got canned a few weeks later.

Edit : From that letter " And we believe in our talented group of prospects, including Bo Horvat, Nicklas Jensen, Frank Corrado, Dane Fox, Brendan Gaunce and Hunter Shinkaruk, who will be part of our short and long-term success."

I think it's safe to say Benning fixed our prospect pool.

Hard not to with how high he's picked. Gillis didn't exactly have that luxury.

Doesn’t change the fact that JB has found talent later in the draft, from the late first round to the fifth round (Gaudette).

Give credit where credit is due. Gillis flatout whiffed on pretty much everything but Horvat and Hutton.

No, I definitely give credit to JB for some of his drafting. If I had to choose which GM would my draft between the two, it would be Benning.

Just saying that it's unfair to compare because Gillis was competing while Benning has been "retooling" for 5 years.

There were a few players that MG drafted that are still NHLers.... just not on the Canucks.

Kevin Connauton is regular, same with Hutton.

Hodgson would still be an NHL if he didn't have his medical condition.

Rodin probably could be in the NHL... but at his age and body, it's safer to play back in Europe for more guaranteed money.

There are a few borderline NHLers in Corrado, Gaunce, and Schroeder.

Overall, not terrible when you factor in the position of the team during his tenure and Benning's.  That being said, MG with his agent background is more specialized in regard to attractiving free agents and contract negotiations.  Benning is more focused on drafting.  Now if only they can great some hybrid of the two, lol.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a merry Christmas.

I don't know.  Does it also mean Edler is coming back?

Not that I entirely disagree with the sentiment but Gillis did have two top 10 picks...

One has worked out marvelously for the record...the other...well he could have been Erik Karlsson

And give credit to Gillis for getting that extra 5th round pick to select Gaudette in the first place  (re: Diaz trade).
