and that's the NHL not wanting to play in Vancouver on the condition of absolute safety for players and citizens.  Given the state of the US right now, it seems like a no brainer.  If you want to play and you profess your desire to keep the players as safe as possible, then playing in the province that has completely flattened the curve and playing by the rules that has kept citizens of this province safe seems like the move to make to back up the rhetoric.

Alberta’s numbers are very encouraging as well, and they are willing to work with the league to make the games happen. At this point I still think it’s up in the air as to whether or not we actually see any games.

Alberta will always compromise for the almighty dollar or a hint at prestige

I've never thought that the season will continue and that hasn't changed.  I said in March that it will be a long time before we see large scale pro sports at all.

Vancouver no longer considered at all.

Host cities deemed to be in the running are Toronto, Edmonton and Vegas.

All cities with higher rates of transmission than Vancouver.

The transmission rate in host cities isn’t really relevant of the bubble and procedures are in place.

the problem the NHL and sports in NA has is due to multiple levels of government and not having a unified approach.

UK as a whole is a mess with the virus but the return of football there is similar to how Germany has also has a sports return and seems to be a good approach for sports.

creating bubbles and frequent testing should be a key part of it, also this should be paid for by the NHL.

As to whether or not hotel staff should be part of it, surely the NHL should be paying for additional testing for them to allow to sport to return, but also hotel policy and procedures should Mean that there should be very limited to no contact with the players and teams

This is all a joke it will be To. * COVID* is not a joke but the NHL loves Toronto.

NHL loves viewership. And while those of us in Western Canada may not like it, majority of the viewership in Canada is in Ontario and Toronto. Would be exactly the same if it Vancouver and BC had majority of the population and viewership, then the West coast would get priority.

Games in the west would start at times favourable to eastern viewers, so where the games are played should make no difference to ratings.

Which is why one hub will likely be Edmonton, and the other Toronto. Edmonton is only a 2 hour time difference from Ontario, which in the end, will cater more towards their viewers.

Reading LeBrun's tweets it sounds like players are debating the 2nd hub.  Vegas is still believed to be a hub.

When discussing Vancouver as hub, Thomas Drance assured that players don't care when games are played and would even prefer earlier in the day than 7pm.  With no fans in the stands he thought it wouldn't matter at all to start games earlier for the eastern conference.

He didn't address starting games later for Western spectators though should they be based in the East.  A 7pm game for Vancouver audience would be 10pm at night in Toronto.  Seems more problematic for players.

The league in an earlier interview said their preference would be for the home team not play in their home city.  Vegas was discussed for the East and Toronto for the West.  If both hubs are in the West that won't be possible but the league now assures that it wouldn't be problem as arenas will be completely neutral.

Interesting how the major sports networks - Sportsnet and TSN are so focused on reporting as though Vancouver lost the bid, and not even bothering to examine whether refusing to bend on health by this major Canadian hockey market was the right choice. Seems that they’re okay with compromising player safety, but when it comes to reporting on facts such at Matthews having COVID, they need to respect player privacy and put their head in the sand. How fitting that those two approaches seem to perfectly work for appeasing Toronto fans. Well done Sportsnet and TSN!
