Previously it was generic bland statements about how he likes it here. The same thing every player says. Maybe it is in my head, but I buy this particular version a little more. It genuinely seems like we are near the top of the pile in terms of landing spots. I don’t know if we are above Southern California, but maybe right after that and we have the benefit of actually getting to negotiate with him. I had a friend who played in Anaheim and was able to have some in depth conversations with lots of those guys (more than a decade ago). They couldn’t gush more about how great it was playing there. They had greet fans but as soon as they were two blocks from the arena, they were completely anonymous even the day after they won the Stanley Cup. It is kind of the best of both worlds, compared with no one caring like in Florida and not getting a moment’s peace like in a Canadian city. Mackcanuck Posted September 11, 2020 Share Posted September 11, 2020 (edited) Bill Daly announced today that they intend to play a full 82 game season in 2020/21 starting in early December. That means a large number of back to back games and an extremely condensed schedule. Vancouver has probably one of the worst travel schedules in a normal year but it will be even more brutal in 2021. This will put emphasis on the workload of our Goalies. We will definitely need both Markstrom and Demko playing. Especially if Benning is going to try and sign them at a minimum, because there's just not enough cap. My first thought was TOR. They need both, a good veteran top 4 right-shot Dman, and a goalie who can steal games all season and in the playoffs. I am now officially in the Marky/Demko combo for this season Montreal getting Jake Allen when they already have Carey Price makes a bit more sense. Hopefully if they choose to condense the schedule they focus a bit more on MLB-style series rather than traveling all over the damn continent. Eriksson for sure will cost though. I would sign Toffoli to a 4 year deal than Pearson to a 3 year the following off-season if he's willing to take a team friendly too. Both of their deals would be expiring when Hog/Pod ELCs are up and perhaps when Hughes's potential bridge deal is too. I wouldn't do anymore than 4 years for Tanev too, preferably less though. The kicker would be what Marky signs for if he stays here. If we let him go we save cap but we can't really afford to give any NMC if we want to keep Demko. Baer will be sent down again (whatever down looks like), it saves the 1 mil. You'd think he'd like to be playing in Europe vs sitting at home, its been a long time since he's seen any playing time. But I guess thats his prerogative but he could end up going 18 months without seeing competitive games if he's stuck on some AHL practice roster bubble. Not sure thats a career rejuvenating move. I wonder what it would really take to shed Sutter. I just have no idea who would trade for him now that so many teams are apparently putting in a 70 mil internal cap. I think he can get more from Colorado and that team is a legit contender and they can still add Pietrangelo and or Ekman Larsson. They have a ton of a cap space. Even if they only offer 4.5-6m I would be considering it over Vancouver if Vancouver doesn't give me a NMC. Now there is Buffalo who has basically unlimited cap space and have terrible goalies.. So you could see them throw 7-8m, maybe more, at Markstrom to bring him in. Minnesota, Carolina, Ottawa and Detroit need goalies as well so he will be able to get more than 6m it just depends if he wants to compete for a cup or not. Don't see them being part of a Cup winning Canuck team in 2/3years. If their mutual Vegas wiltings are any indication of character. Leaving the heavy lifting to young Pettersson was shameful, but they weren't alone.
