The tweet was pointless.

We have three injuries. Neither of them are the reason we’re forced to claim waiver players.

Ahhh yes...ignorant / delusional fans on this board...big surprise! He wouldn't have to tweet things like that if a huge amt of the fan base / media weren't off their damn rockers!!

But that would imply the Leafs have been contending for many seasons since they don't have any anchor contracts bringing them down.  Yet, Benning was brought in the same time as Shanahan.

Something isn't adding up here ;)

Nylander's contract is absolutely atrocious for a lazy floater who is afraid of the puck and doesn't care about winning in the playoffs, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to pay Rielly's salary and get as defenseman who can't play defense and refuses to even try to play like an NHLer in his own zone.

Yeah...no.

Injuries are the last thing the Canucks should be looking to blame for this season.  Enough with this mindless drivel.

Strive to be more like the Leafs, lmfao.  Please.

It's not April 1st yet.

One team is cruising to the playoffs, has their core signed and sealed, very nice cap structure, no looming issues with the team

The other team is...eh.  We all know the issues.

There's a lot to learn from how the Leafs are doing things and we shouldn't turn our noses up at them.

After 7 years Jb has built zero depth internally at any position leaving it  necessary  to pick up other teams trash.
Hope jbs and his proven failure  “day by day “ plan is gone soon.

he can take all his crap signings pickups with him.

Benning the laughing  stock of the nhl and stinks of  desperation.

IF you don't like Rielly's contract you're going to be mighty dissapointed when Quinn signs his extension this summer.

Rielly makes only 5 mill per year..  That's a steal of a contract for a player like him in an NHL with a 80+ mill cap ceiling.

Rielly is a top tier offensive dman but way better than Hughes on defense side... Quinn doesn't come close to Rielly in defense and Quinn will be making much more.

Quinn will get better as he matures... but Rielly's contract is not a problem, its a bargain..

Hughes is already better than Rielly in his own zone and much younger.  Personally, the way Rielly plays in his own zone isn't acceptable at any level and he'd be in the press box until he made a commitment to learning how to play defense.  I'm sure as hell not going to pay 5 million for someone who's that much of a liability.

It says quite a lot when his waiver pickups/injury "replacements" are statistically better than his "foundational" periphery/depth players.

Yet, some of on here would like to believe that Benning is doing a fantastic job.  It's only a matter of time before his biggest, ardent supporters start citing his waiver pickups as a pro of his management.

Those players were very solid players who were in their prime when we signed them. Now they’re past their prime and need to be replaced with younger players. Happens to literally every team.

Of course a 26 year old is going to play harder and with more energy than a 33-35 year old. It’s a young mans game now. You wanna blame someone blame ownership for demanding that Benning make the team competitive 6 years ago.

Oh, the ownership is definitely to blame for a lot of this, but come on, everybody with a bit of hockey knowledge knew that Beagle and Roussel for 4 years was asking for trouble.  To give those contracts, while also committing money and term to Myers, Ferland the next season, and already having Eriksson under contract, is just irresponsible, wasteful free-agent management.  That's on Benning.  Not the market, not the state of the team, not injuries, not whatever excuse.  That's on the GM and the GM only.

Hilarious the way everything turns into "Benning sucks!" vs. "Benning rules!!" around here.

Seeks kinda obvious that he's had his share of hits and misses.

This would have been a 2-3 page thread if people were meh about Jim “The Joker” Benning.

They shouldn't of merged the two Benning threads. Big mistake. I should be the mod on here. I know everything almost as much as Benning. #firegreen #benningisgod
