Senators Will Not Qualify Adam Gaudette

JUNE 30, 2022 AT 9:55 AM CDT | BY GAVIN LEE LEAVE A COMMENT

It wasn’t so long ago that Adam Gaudette was a top prospect, leaving Northeastern University with the Hobey Baker and a ton of NHL momentum. In his second season, he scored 12 goals and 33 points in 59 games, suggesting that he could be a reliable top-six contributor down the road.

Now, just a few years later, he won’t be receiving a qualifying offer from the Ottawa Senators, making him an unrestricted free agent again at age 25. Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reportsthat the Senators have already told Gaudette of their plan to leave him unqualified.

This is nothing new for the young forward. He failed to receive a qualifying offer last year either, though eventually agreed to a new contract with the Chicago Blackhawks for the same amount anyway. The team then put him on waivers in November, leading him to Ottawa, where he played 50 games in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, another Hobey Baker winner I know of just won a Norris, Conn Smythe, and Stanley Cup.....

Gaudette needs to figure it out that he's a solid middle 6 guy if he can just hone is defensive side of the game.  Play on the right side of the puck, and he'd be a very effective player.

Scoring the shootout winner In a meaningless game against Vancouver will be the highlight of his career

No Way, I saw him score the winner against the Kings in LA

That’s his issue exactly.  He refuses to play the right way.  He sees himself as a scoring centre.  He lacks character.

What's sad is he has the tools to morph his game to a 2-way style. Then he can be defensive and have an offensive upside. He's smart, plays with emotion.

He has all the tools, it's a matter of how bad do you want it? It's a pity that Malhotra isn't a coach here. Because he went from a gifted offensive forward, but wasn't able live up to expectations. So he changed his game and became a very good 2-way centre. So he could help a guy like Gaudette because he knows what he's going through.

1. Sign him

2. Play him with Highmore

3. Money for nothin'

4. Chicks for free

Nah just kidding, been there done that. He doesn't have the chops to be a top 6, and doesn't work hard enough to be a bottom 6. Seems like the perfect candidate to go overseas.

Too much baggage for it to be in Vancouver, but could see him playing a Nic Petan role for some team next year.

So gifted a roster spot for no reason and then playing like compete trash and being worse than useless?
