Imagine if JR did that - very few prospects and trading away their best prospect, a decent winger and a 1st round pick, for a player that might not even re-sign. And they're not even a playoff team! They don't even need a C! They already have Barzal, Pageau, Cizikas and Nelson who can play C. People complaining that JR is too old and ruining the team. Sheesh, Lou is losing it. There are LOTS of options on the market, and many would be CHEAPER to acquire than Horvat. From a cost-benefit basis, many of these guys below would be better bang for the buck. If you're holding out to try and get a top 4 RHD, top tier prospect, and a 1st round pick + MORE, you're pricing yourself out of this market. Use your head. Think about it from the other team's perspective instead of trying to come up with generalized statements like "OH WE COULD HAVE GOT MORE!!!!11!1!!" Players on the trade block: O'Reilly Larkin Toews Kane Tarasenko Meier Van Riemsdyk Roslovic 1 of Bennett, Reinhart, or Duclair Bottomline is there are multiple avenues of improving a roster at the TDL. Offers could get better or they could get worse if they decide to go with another cheaper route leaving fewer teams available to bid against each other. And teams know we have a time crunch with a pending UFA so the closer we get to the deadline puts more pressure on us as well and might just take whatever is available worrying that we could lose him for nothing. It's a buyers market, they have the leverage this year given the little cap space. We took advantage of a team that isn't even in the playoffs and may not even make it. The value of that 1st is greater than any contender could offer and whatever prospect they give up will be no different than Raty.
