RWJC
Oh my lorrrrrd! But this is where money should be spent. Young guys who will only improve and hopefully give full value over the term of the deal rather than become a buyout candidate in 3-4 years. Outsiders
one thing I will give the sabres credit for is they are able to sign guys to long term contracts without paying them stupid money. first Tage now Cozens 1

Good bet as you gotta spend 60+ M regardless. I'd rather pay kids over getting anchored by UFAs 2 3
DownUndaCanuck
Wow, big deal for a kid who's barely proven, a bit like the Petey signing though. These kids need bridges, not long term deals which take them to their late 20s when they end up in a Bo-like predicament where a team has to sign them to another massive deal which handcuffs them. 1

Like Mustard Tiger said, they're taking risk locking guys up early. Samuelsson too. Trusting their talent evaluators, at both the amateur and pro levels.

Better to lock up and maintain control rather than worry about building up a nice core and then have to blow it up come bridge deals because you can no longer cost control it
King Heffy
A bit much up front but likely to be an absolute bargain in 3 years or so, when their window should be open.
Mike Vanderhoek
These loaded up contracts for kids is really messed up. 1

Couldnt disagree more, our management failed when they werent able to get Petey and Hughes signed to 7-8 year deals. Teams generally dont win cups with 11 million dollar contracts on their books. Paying a young budding star more money in the early years to keep their cap hit lower in their prime is GMing 101.
Goal:thecup
I wish they would trade Tage to us; love that guy.
Coconuts
I'm often a bit skeptical of long-term deals to young guys but I could actually see this one aging well Him and Tage make a great 1-2 punch
