His defensive metrics are sound, he gets sub 50% ozone starts, has been playing 22ish minutes a night. I guess you could argue he gets carried by a defensive minded partner. But, I dunno. Seems fine defensively. Saying it's his biggest weakness sounds like he's trash. He's not Barrie or Severson or anything. Will fans hard focus on mistakes? Yes. Their defenders aren't exactly world beaters. Hughes and OEL do the bulk of the heavy lifting. He won't be under as much pressure here.

I feel we really just need to see him play before we overreact one way or the other. Different systems, different expectations for what we need and will ask of him.

He is quite physical with hits and blocks a lot of shots.  His skating is good, hockey IQ good. At the draft, his defensive

game was critiqued as "Filip Hronek has some solid defensive skills, but his lack of size and strength

can be a detriment to his game. He has a quick stick which he can use to poke the puck off of an attacker's stick. He has good positioning, reads the play well and cuts down passing lanes. However, Hronek’s lack of muscle makes it difficult for him to clear the front of the net, or contain bigger forwards in the cycle game."

At the draft, Hronek was 6' 163lbs. Right now he is the same height and 188lbs.  He can handle the bigger forwards now.

I understand the disappointment of losing the 1st, I felt that twinge as well.  He's a top 4 RD, which has been hard

for the Canucks to find.  I'd like to see some games and see how he fits on the team before I condemn him.

This team isn't going to be fixed over a few days, so we might sit back and watch all the other additions they

pick up in the next few months.  With Hronek joining the team, we now have 2 very good nhl dmen.  There will

more coming along in the future.

I believe Miller is that 2C we were looking for so a solid 3C  and 1- Top 4 Defensive D man would be at the top of the list

Lazar is at 52 % FO right now and rising with the more opportunities he gets.

I think we ride the season with him .

I think his best is 54-56 % ??

it’s worth being patient with Lazar. He could become the specialist we need, and fill Horvats usage in that regard.

How about we address the D by trading some of our forwards instead of draft picks?

As has been mentioned, we kinda did. We moved Horvat, a forward, for a haul. Used part of that package to get Hronek, a RHD that we desperately need. We still have our pick. We even got a pick back with Hronek. Albeit a pretty meh one. We still have 7 draft picks in this draft, including our 1st rounder. The 2nd rounder we gave up will absolutely be missed though. I liked some of the late 1st early, 2nd guys.

Why? So we can finish 8 spots out of the basement instead of 3 or 4? It might have been a "priority" for some, but not me.

As I said, I've seen this movie many times. It always ends up with us in the playoffs, but not a true contender.

The last time we were a true contender is when Burkie moved players and got us the 2nd and 3rd picks....

Because LHD are easier to acquire than quality RHD.

The Nucks still have their own pick which is a lot more valuable for drafting a quality prospect.

The Defense needed addressing as well. Acquiring a top or solid LH defensive dman should be the next priority.

With hronek injuries and unable to play he doesn’t make the team any better until he comes back. And at that point he still has to climatize to a new team. We still have our own 1st round pick that   Isn’t conditional. So there’s still a shot at bedard with far better percentages.  the 1st rd pick we gave up isn’t even in our control. And very well could end up at around 17, 18 oa. People losing their marbles. :picard:

Its like Superman, he runs around fixing the planet and never figures out that we actually seem to LIKE it Fricken f**ked UP!

Ya. 8 years of trying to retool, not making the playoffs and it just not working does that. Oh and they are trying again. Hmmmm. They haven't won so what do you expect.

It was holland at that time. I think… please correct me if I’m wrong.

Ah yes you are right my bad. On Hughes at least. That still is a massive blue line. It doesn't make any sense why they would trade their only offensive minded D unless there was a fundamental problem with him.

I’m sorry, I understand the concept, I just think it’s entirely redundant. You need core pieces to build around. Now, that’s what’s being done.

JR and PA better hope this move work out cause if it doesn't, we spun our wheels while diminishing the returns for Petey and Hughes and futures leading to us delaying this pathetic state by another decade on top of time needed if we go into a rebuild today.

They had a chance to fix all of this had they not so stupidly re-signed Miller. That is their cardinal sin.

There are certain things that are REALLY hard to get through the draft. Good RD is one of them.

We just got one.

I don't have a problem with this, if needed, we could trade him out next deadline for at least what we just paid for him!
