Just found out Schenn got 1-year, $700k deal with Tampa... and we couldn't beat that and picked up Fatenburg instead??  What gives??

Are you familiar with income tax?

He wants a chance to drink from the cup like his brother :)

Tampa will need depth if they hope to go for a long playoff run come next season in a deep Eastern Conference. And as mentioned, Schenn will keep more of his money playing in the State of Florida.

But there's also a bigger risk he'll get dumped to minors just like with Anaheim last season. There was already a good mutual fit with him playing alongside Hughes.

Just saying he's taking a greater risk not staying, that is all.

I think it has more to do with Jordie Benn being a similar player, but better. He's can also be a big bodied guy that throws it around and sticks up for his teammate. So, if they feel Benn can do the same role, but be more effective in other areas as well, they probably don't feel they are losing out on giving up Schenn.

We even got him at a hometown discount. It really showed in his interview that he really wanted to come here even before FA. lol

Ideal 7th D-man. Skates well, has some physicality, and can play both sides.

We need better quality depth guys, with how injury-prone Tanev and Edler are...

Biega is an ideal #8 too. Benn should take on some of the hard PK minutes off of Edler. And Myers along with Stecher should give more stability to the right side to hopefully ease up some of Tanev's minutes. So right now we may have mitigated some of the injuries to our guys, but have decent insurance should they go down.

Well he said he got the same offer from Montreal, so I'm not sure he took a hometown discount, but the hometown draw pulled him away from staying in Montreal.

Well, from what I gather, he wanted to see what others options there would be. So this could mean he might have either been hoping we'd come calling or hoping for a little more money.

We basically got Montreal's discount. lol
