  1. A day ago Panarin posted this on his instagram account.

Is he low key suggesting that Vancouver has the chance to sign him? He hasn't made a post like this for any other place he's rumored to be going too... He'd be a perfect winger for Horvat.

I follow CBJ pretty close and he's streaky and a perimeter player, I'd be surprised if Jimbo is into him. But I like the idea of getting some more Russians in the fold. Such a short trip home for them. This is all me being manipulative to get NT88 back. Love big Nik.

It is interesting he’s played in every other NHL city and didn’t take a picture like that.

  2. Blast from the past --- https://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/canucks-sign-burrows-rypien/n-3238919

Didn't realize Rick Rypien and Alex Burrows were signed by the Canucks on the same day. Burrows was also 24 years old. I guess it's a good reminder that a player is a player and not to count a guy out if he's older/undrafted.

  3. Dream Canucks 4th line in the next year or two?

    Carcone - MacEwen - Archibald

Michael Carcone is a puck hound, MacEwen uses his size to dominate the middle of the ice, Archibald is used for his checking prowess.

Feel like that would be one fun 4th line.

      CRAZY_4_NAZZY

Based on how he is being used in Utica, I don't think the Canucks see MacEwen is going to be a centre.  He has spent most of his time on the right wing, and even when Utica has had injuries down the middle, he was still kept at wing as Utica signed centres.  They even played Carter Bancks who is a natural winger at centre, even when they had a healthy MacEwen.

IMO, he is likely to make his living being gritty and hard to play against on the wing, and impose his size on others.  Kinda of the same transition that has happened with Brendan Gaunce.

  4. Fox and Friends traded for future considerations

  5. I have no idea how credible this guy is but apparently he's a scout for HockeyProspect.com (so he'd naturally have contact with Judd Brackett amongst others) but apparently Judd's on a shortlist for GM candidates for the Oilers (probably come this offseason).

I hope it's not true. I also bet the Canucks would promote Judd before allowing him to go be the GM of the Oilers.

I mentioned this in another thread thread...dude uses an unverified twitter account and has less than 3000 followers.  I wouldn’t worry too much.

    3. MJDDawg

      MJDDawg

I hope Benning can keep him. Judd has become hugely important for our team.  In the last couple of drafts it seems like Benning basically defers to Judd on picks.

    4. JM_

      JM_

not sure I really buy into this, does Edmonton really jump a guy from scout to GM for a "win now" team? maybe if they were rebuilding. Clickbait.

  6. I never thought I'd feel bad for John Scott... but what the NHL is doing to him is "$&!#ty" despite him being a total goon on the ice, he seems like a good guy off of it.

  7. I'm not mad about Hamhuis being moved. I was expecting that he'd stick around. I'm more pissed at the fact that Vrbata is still here. I get it, he was good last season -- but they couldn't get anything for him?!? I call shenanigans. -- I just hope the Canucks can sway a few College UFAs to sign with us and get a Hamhuis extension done... that'll ease the sting of this day more.

Casey Nelson, Drake Caggiula, or Brandon Tanev please.

  8. I've got to say, it's really cool and a great sign that the Canucks have one of the prospect pools in the NHL that the Canucks only needed to invite a handful of players to this year's Development Camp. And that group doesn't even include: Rathbone, Podkolzin, Manukuyan, Costmar, and Hughes...

That said, I'm disappointed that Rathbone isn't at this year's development camp... felt like this would be a big showcase for him with Hughes and Podkolzin not being there. Though, this opens the door for Jett Woo to really show his potential alongside Nils Hoglander and Brogan Rafferty (who I feel like is a dark horse to crack the NHL roster this Fall).

    1. Tystick

      Tystick

I'm assuming Rathbone's completing his degree so we likely won't see him for a while.

No big deal anyway, it's probably best for his development.

    2. Wilbur

      Wilbur

Pretty rare for College prospects to come to the showcase as they have to pay their own way.

    3. Quantum

      Quantum

Rathbone was here last year and Will Lockwood has been to all 4 development camps he's been eligible for (including the year he was recovering from his shoulder injury)... But that could be the case for Rathbone, that he's taking summer classes, in order to get his degree faster and turn pro faster, honestly.

  9. If you were CBJ and MTL would you do a deal that's basically Carey Price for Sergei Bobrovsky (who signs an extension) + 2nd round pick + B prospect?

Was thinking about this. MTL is "rebuilding" and has extra cap. CBJ wants to keep its playoff streak alive. Bobrovsky wants money and Price wants to win. Feels like a real fit especially if the Canadiens can extract some futures from CBJ.

    Thoughts?

    1. Nuxfanabroad

      Nuxfanabroad

It's an interesting idea. Don't like tying up that much coin in a 'tender. If I were GM, prob about 8 mill would be the limit.

I'll guess Bob winds up traded west. His PO #'s are iffy...

    2. Alflives

      Alflives

This would be good for both teams, providing Columbus (a notoriously cheap team) could afford Price.

Can you really call two consecutive years a 'playoff streak'?

  10. LOL -- The Penguins are already looking to get rid of Gudbranson. Meanwhile, Pearson has had a strong resurgence in Vancouver. This trade keeps getting better and better.

McCann is a new Grabner. I don't think he was ever going to thrive in Vancouver. He needed to be traded by not 1, but 2 teams to get his ass in gear. Oddly enough, Grabner also had to pass through Florida and Vancouver before establishing himself.

Yes, it would have been nice if McCann could have blossomed in Vancouver but I feel like it just wasn't meant to be and we need to move on.

Like I said, McCann is just Grabner 2.0....

    3. JM_

your mean Grabner with less speed and skill? Maybe Grabber 0.6 ?

    4. Dazzle

      Dazzle

@oldnews We'll probably never agree on Gudbranson, but honestly, he wasn't the right fit. You can pull all the stats (fancy or otherwise) to try and support your case. Yet you can see what he did and didn't do on the ice. On the radio after the trade, he admitted he didn't play as well as he would've wanted.

That kind of accountability makes Gudbranson a solid guy. I hope he plays well, wherever he plays. I am not a Gudbranson hater. I never was.

  11. Michael Sdao is on waivers today. 6'4" tough left handed defenseman. Is he worth the waiver claim?!? I think he'd be a better fit for the Canucks then Rundbland.

how many posters know enough about some of these guys to know if they are good players...every player put on waivers, fans think we should pick up...why not give us his stats, and his future talents so we can make some kind of opinion?

    3. Dazzle

By that logic, nobody should be discussing anything about hockey, since nobody knows enough, including yourself.

when has logic ever been part of cdc?

  12. My gut's telling me that Dan Hamhuis has refused to waive his NTC and that he won't be moved today.

  13. Prust for Scott? Can Benning make that happen? Please?!? Let's return Prust to Montreal, and have Scott do the job Prust was supposed to do with the kids. That's a win/win, ya?!?

  14. RIP Kobe...

I wonder if the NBA will go the way of the NHL and retire Kobe's #24 league wide after this tragedy.

  15. This might be one of my favourite Canucks related tweets in some time. Laughed out loud hard at this one.

  16. Watched the draft clip of Derrick Pouliot recently. The day he was picked, his NHL comparable was "Michael Del Zotto"... and now the Canucks have both Derrick Pouliot and Michael Del Zotto and they both stink. How times have changed since 2012.

  17. What's with the Canucks dropping games 5-2? It's starting to feel like a conspiracy. I mean 5 + 2 = 7. 3 + 4 = 7. 34 is the number Auston Matthews. AUSTON MATTHEWS HERE WE COME. #thestealthtankisreal

But the Comets are winning 5-2.

Last year it was the other way around.

  19. Would Ondrej Palat be the kind of "2nd line" scoring winger the Canucks should be going after?

The Lightning are about to hit a major cap crunch and Palat's having a down year. Could he be a sneaky pick up? A veteran winger to play alongside either Petersson or Horvat? He's got a cap hit of 5.3 mill for the next 3 seasons after this one and the Lightning could use some defensive depth.

Palat for Tanev (or Edler) & Palmu for instance?

Only issue is that Palat has an NTC.

    Thoughts?

We got our 2nd line winger Spooner... I cant see us making any trades were probably not making playoffs (kinda torn both ways about this).

      he's only good on tampa

I don't want Spooner to be our second line winger for next season. He's not good enough. If anything, I see Spooner stepping into Granlund's role next year, as I don't see the Canucks re-signing Granlund after this year.

  20. Wow, what a goal by Conor Garland. He returned to this game (and got another goal) after this and was bleeding still when he was being interviewed post game. Toughest goal one could possibly score. What a warrior.

  21. Benning's moves regarding goalies make tons of sense if you assume he doesn't actually know Lack's age because really... how young is to young? Eddie Lack's turning 28 and Jacob Markstrom is 26. That's not that young,

Using Benning logic, Demko is still another 10 years or so away.

  22. Jake Virtanen has more goals this season than — Tyler Seguin, Jeff Skinner, Johnny Gaudreau, Alex Debrincat, Jamie Ben, Phil Kessel, and Nicklas Backstrom. Virtanen is quietly having a great season.

Not so quietly recently. He's been driving play, moving his feet and shooting from better angles.

I still hope he ups his physicality but Id be fine if he reserves that for the playoffs

    3. Type R

      Type R

Hes slowly turning into the player that Benning was betting on when he drafted him.  If Jake turns this into a consistent effort, we may not have to do too much shopping over the next 2 years, as we will have all the talent we need.  Especially with Podkolzin and Hoglander knocking on the door.

  23. Alexis A'Doust has yet to be cut by the Canucks. Bold prediction: Canucks ink him to an entry level deal tomorrow.

  24. Am I the only one a little surprised about the fact that the Vegas Golden Knights haven't signed any College UFAs yet or anymore CHL free agents? I thought they'd be bigger players in that market by now.
