I mean… I’d rather lose Jasek than Gadjovich

I'm not sure I would given Jasek's far superior skating, play making, two way game, PK, ability to play C etc.

Ideally we don't lose either. Holtby, even for a bit of sweetener would be ideal.

Curious timing... maybe he’s longing for Europe?

We underestimate how different living in Europe is compared to North America.

It’s too bad, he put up with living in Utica and now he’s leaving where he could be right next door to Vancouver.

Probably getting no concrete signs from the Canucks that they have ever considered him a true option for the NHL squad.

Surprised he didn’t get a call up considering he led the Comets in points.

Rafferty will be next to jump ship.  One of Gustafson's "special assignments" should be to get Jim a calendar and a clock.  Seems he "ran out of time" again

Yeah, or maybe eveyone just realized he isn't an NHL player right now, and he can play closer to home for better money in Finland. Canucks can still retain his rights if they qualify him. If he has a great season over there, we can try again next year. The whole "Jim musta ran out of time thing" is getting really old.

P.S. Rafferty doesn't defend at an NHL level, so no, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Canucks moved on from him, too.

I think that’s a pretty good guess.

From what I’ve heard, there’s a bit of a difference of opinion inside the organization, as to Jasek’s NHL viability. Some people think he’s legit, but others think he tops out as an AHLer, and they probably like some of the other C/W prospects more.

I’d expect he asked the Canucks where he stood and he didn’t like the answer. Pretty good chance he was told he wouldn’t be getting offered an NHL contract next season and decided Finland offered him a better option, and likely more money than an AHL only deal.

I’m disappointed he wasn’t given more of a shot by the Canucks, but it was always going to be tough for him to crack the NHL roster (at least any time soon), given the others competing for roles. Hopefully he can have some success in Finland, and then look to try his luck again with the NHL sometime down the road.

Figures. If you are not on Green’s radar, no point being over here - ask Rafferty. Green has had little interest in either of them. What is interesting in both cases is how much Cull valued them  - as demonstrated in his deployment of them both. Green would much rather use burn outs like Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, and Sutter - good place for Benning to waste 16 mil in cap space - throw in the history of concussion guys - Baertschi and Ferland and JB has managed to waste more than a quarter of our cap space. JB is a handy sock puppet for Aquilini - but I guess when you are the owner, that is your prerogative - too bad for the players and fans.

Why do people think that every single prospect has to make the NHL, or it's some kind of conspiracy? The fact Cull leans on these players in the AHL, but they can't make inroads in the NHL is far from surprising, it happens to multiple players in every organization every year. The AHL is very different than the NHL, particularly when it comes to defending. Players like Beagle, Roussel and Eriksson have proven their defensive competency through many year NHL careers, so it's hardly a shock that a coach would trust them more than players he sees defensive deficiencies in. What possible reason would Green have for wanting prospects to fail?

Did you actually watch Rafferty in the NHL?

He was atrocious in the one game he got into. I would’ve liked to see him given another opportunity but it is what it is.

You are just too hell bent on blaming everything you can on management and ownership.

He wasn't atrocious.  It was a 7 - 3 loss to Montreal.  Rafferty was on the ice for 3 goals against (one of them a PP goal) and 1 for, for a net -1 rating.  Schmidt (-4) was his partner on 2 against, Myers for the 3rd goal against (as an aside, he got his assist on Sutter's 3rd period goal, as did Myers, who wasn't even on the ice per the scorecard - but obviously was, see the clip below)

Similar stats to Hoglander, 1 assist but 3 goals against, but for a -2.  In your opinion, was Hogz "atrocious" too?

Anyone who watched that game could plainly see his defensive issues, you could even see it in preseason games he played. His only chance would be as a third pairing sheltered minutes power play specialist. On this team he would be behind Hughes, Rathbone, Schmidt and Myers... pointless, basically. What we need out of a bottom pairing guy is someone that defends at a very high level, not an AHL powerplay quarterback.

No Googlie, I actually remember clearly watching that game because I was really interested in Rafferty.  He didn't look like he belonged in the NHL.  Granted it was only one game, but he really was "atrocious".

Rafferty is probably at best, if he can improve his defensive play, a depth defenseman. I’m not sure if he’ll ever be strong enough to compete (physically), and I’m not sure if he’ll ever become defensively aware enough to be a regular in the NHL. I guess it’s just time to move on. If he can get another crack at another NHL roster then that’s great. I hope he gets that chance.

Exactly...  there was no way to justify playing him ahead of guys like Benn, Juolevi and Chatfield last year.  It's too bad because I was pretty excited about his offensive game but it's not some crazy loss if we move on from him.

This is reminding me a lot of Corrado situation.  We were losing a Norris candidate in some people's eyes.
