So, Selänne is the player with most Rookie of the month awards at 4? (lost Nov, Joe Juneau. Dec, Rob Gaudreau. Feb, Felix Potvin.) anyone here think Elias will tie or top that?

I think he breaks the record. Unless Dahlin and a couple others come on strong I think he wins AT LEAST 4

He's probably already won November with that memorable 5 pt night

He has recanted many times, and eaten platters of crow.

I was also sure of Vilardi, some report had made the point he was almost a full year younger than the rest of his class. Didn’t want Glass but I also liked Mittlestadt and was pissed when we took EP.

Like most that changed within about a day-week (far before the SHL season began) when more in-depth analysis made Bennings genius more apparent.

Here’s to all the recanters and crow eaters!

Knew he was a Franchise Talent from the jump. IMO he's right there with the tier of MacKinnon/Matthews/Eichel below McDavid.

Imagine if they actually selected the obvious choice in Matthew Tkachuk in 2016 and had one of the leagues most dominant PWF's on his line, no one would dare touch him.

Tkachuk - Pettersson - Boeser

Goldobin - Horvat - Gaudette

would've been deadly

Has there ever been another rookie to get the calder plus another trophy in his rookie season?

Tom Barrasso I believe won the Calder and the Vezina. May have even won the Jennings his rookie year too....nope just checked the Jennings was year two

Pettersson essentially negates the need for Jack Hughes. We got our franchise centre, an elite level two-way centre, and a solid 3C (Pettersson, Horvat, Gaudette/Sutter). Reminds me of Henrik, Kesler, and Manny in their prime. So stacked down the middle.

Even though it would be amazing if the Canucks do well, the prospect of getting someone like Kaapo Kakko to play with Pettersson is mouth-watering.

Next season:

Dahlen-Pettersson-Kakko

Baertschi-Horvat-Boeser

My god.

Said it a thousand times, Canucks need D like an out of work porn star.  I hope they land a promising D man with their first pick.

Mobile defence is key in the new NHL game. I see Bowen Byram as being the ideal defence man for us. He skates well, can run a power play, is offensive and defensive, has an element of physicality.

This isn't to disparage Teemu Selanne in any way, but Teemu did all of this as a 22 year old, with an uber talented Alexei Zhamnov as his centerman and a group of top flight puck moving d-men made up of Phil Housely, Teppo Numninen, and Freddy Olausson  (though I was living in Vancouver by 1989, I grew up in Winnipeg, and was a Jets/Selanne fan during the 92-93 season when Selanne broke into the league).

What the young 19yo (soon to be 20yo) Pettersson has done in his first nine NHL games is something I haven't seen since Gretzky ruled the Smythe division.  The pessimist in me is waiting for the drop-off in Pettersson's game to come, but based on what I've seen so far, I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Without doubt, Pettersson is the most electrifying rookie since Pavel Bure that I have ever seen in a Canucks jersey (and I have lived in Vancouver 20 of the past 30 years, and have been a transplanted Canucks fan since 1994 Cup run).  Here's hoping that Pettersson can sustain what he's doing for the remaining 67 games...should that be the case, he'll be knocking on Art Ross's, Hart's, Calder's, Rocket Richard's, and Ted Lindsay's door, and the Canucks will be punching its ticket to the playoffs.

It's funny listening to the Avs commentators basically react to Pettersson's last-minute goal with "that f***ing Pettersson boomed me":

"No..... Pettersson!"

There's also the OT call of the Avs crew and it's actually hilarious. Their voice starts to crack when Pouliot scores and one of them was like " I think they're gonna review the goal", even though it was a clear goal. They were almost about to cry, they couldn't process what had happened.

I don’t want Tkachuk right from the pre-draft. There is something about him that when I was looking at the prospects before the draft that make me dislike him as a person. I was really hoping the Canucks won’t pick him at 5. Even in a re-draft, I would not want the Canucks to pick him up period. I rather see someone like McAvoy or Keller as a Canuck instead of him. This has nothing to do with M. Tkachuk is now a Flame, I just dislike him right from the start.

However, I don’t get this kind of dislike feeling towards B. Tkachuk. In a few years when B. Tkachuk has to be paid, and Melnyk wants to cheap out, I hope JB find a way to fleece Ottawa and bring in B. Tkachuk to play alongside of EP.

If we have selected Tkachuk, he likely plays in the 2016-17 season, and he is most likely on a like with Horvat and Baertchi. With his production, the Canucks would likely get atleast another 5-7 wins and move up the standings. Which means the Canucks will likely not be in a position to pick Pettersson.

What really impresses me is even in the select few games that pettersson has been kept off the score sheet, he's looked dangerous in all those games. Him being without a point was more as a result of him either simply missing on his opportunities or his linemates not converting on his setups and not because teams have found a way to shut him down. Have not been excited about anyone on the canucks team since bure.

Well, I don't really blame them because it was a tough couple days.  They had scored 11 goals in back to back games and lost both of them.

My original prediction for EP was 80 games, 19 goals, 32 assists, and 51 points. New prediction: 70 games, 40 goals, 51 assists, 91 points. Wins the Calder in a landslide vote. Best NHL rookie since Crosby/Ovechkin.

Its incredible to think that if Pettersson hadn't been injured, he would likely be challenging for the league lead in points right now, and would likely be leading the league in goals scored.

We've got a special player here, he's going to be fun to watch.

Can't wait to see him connecting with Boeser and Hughes next season!

Yeah, but Selanne was a bust after that - his whole career was downhill from there and he never did any better than his rookie season! Haha

These upper echelon players often jump on the scene and dominate, but don’t really jump that much more in terms of points production - often because they become huge targets and teams focus just on shutting them down. If EP40 ends having a dominating season, the most I would hope for is that he ends up rounding out his game in all areas like Crosby and leads us to a few cups!
