It does at least these three things: Allows the prospects the time they need to become professional hockey players without being thrown to the wolves. Allows the prospects to watch veterans who were not necessarily first round pick "locks" and how have earned each shift the right way - that all rubs off. Gives the graduated prospects NHL calibre talent to play with at the NHL level so that they don't stop their development just because they have "graduated" from prospect status. 1 3

Totally agree Only issue being how many veterans we have locked in for the long term when we have younger guys with higher potential that need chances and contracts. Eriksson- 4 years at 6M Roussel- 4 years at 3M Beagle- 4 years at 3M Sutter- 3 years at 4.4M Gagner- 2 years at 3M Schaller- 2 years at 2M Thats 6 of 12 spots taken up with little ability to trade anyone until their UFA year. With Pettersson, Dahlen, Gaudette(these three especially), Motte, MacEwen, Lind, Gadj etc all needing opportunities somewhat soon. Also guys like Leipsic, Virtanen, Goldy and Granlund need good opportunities to show they can be NHL players long term.

All of those players can be traded or waived....the return on a trade may be minuscule but they were all signed as UFAs so not a biggie if that happens. The return on a Sutter trade would be VERY good I would guess though.

Schaller adds physical game and only 2 yrs. Gagner needs to be packaged in trade,We never needed Beagle. Also Erickson needs to be bought out of contract in 2 yrs.. Sutter can be package closer to trade deadline for 2nd rounder, LA maybe? Edited September 4, 2018 by wildcam

He will have the same effect as DD, not maybe as a fighter but as a leader and catalyst. He didn't get his rep sitting on his ass and watching.

Roussel and Beagle are minor issues at 3M each (salary cap continues to trend up. Tomorrow's 3M is yesterday's 1M) and Sutter will still give us value, whether it be with his play or via trade when gaudette takes his role. Anything under 3 years doesnt hurt as as our youngins will still be on ELC's.

So it'll depend on how his next couple of seasons go to see where his value is at that point. It might benefit him to have some young blood offensively and maybe with the Sedins retiring, it'll give him some of the offensive minutes he needs to find his game again. He started his Canuck career with on a 30 point pace, then the next season on a 37 point pace (both seasons shifted into more of a shutdown role), so hopefully a boost into the 45 point pace this season and continuing that trend. There's also the possibility of a team taking him on (if the team is not on his 15 team no trade list) simply for his cap hit and lower salary cost. At least there's the fact that, if we had to have a bad contract like Eriksson's, now is the time to have it when we aren't exactly up against the cap ceiling. In a couple of years on the other hand....

Guys like Eriksson and Gagner are destined for the press box if a kid out plays them with skill. Also keep in mind that this teams track record with injury is abysmal. Idk if it’s the travel, but we always have a couple long term injuries, while seemingly never having the depth to support. There will be plenty of time for kids to come and steal a job. Idk why people think just because some of these vets are signed, that they cannot be dumped for peanuts or waived. It’ll happen if that said player is being out played. This is good! The kids shouldn’t be handed jobs. Most fans will cry like they did when Boeser was scratched his first two games... but that certainly didn’t hurt his development. Patience is key here. We finally have a system with some depth. Also to add, since no one really talks about it... do you guys think those vets want to be replaced? F-No. The pressure of the future should have them on their toes, forcing them to play exactly how Green wants. It’s really a win win scenario. Idk how pundits can stand and say the canucks are looking to win? They are looking to not get stomped and to force teams to play them hard for a win. This club is still 2-3 years from playoffs... by that time, many of these vets will be gone, regardless of their contracts. I happen to like that management brought in three players in Beagle, Schaller and Roussel that will provide the sandpaper that was lacking in the mix last year. I disagree on your evaluation of Beagle as he is a very good backup to Sutter and will make it easier for Greener to distribute the line match ups. I do not see Sutter being moved this year at all as he is very under rated IMO by the fan base and he provides a stable veteran presence for what might be a very young team this year. Having these types of players on the team this year gives JB the time needed to fully develop players like Gadjovich and MacEwen in the minors in hopes that they will be ready in a year or two to replace those we brought in to fill the gap. *Buzzsaw*
Not a fluke that Gadjovich scores twice and had more opportunities. This kid is going to make the Canucks, this year or next.
Popular Post 48MPHSlapShot
Someone was crapping on his play in the GDT and I had absolutely no idea what the dude was talking about. Gaudette Celly
His improvement in skating was definitely noticeable. He wasn't behind the play at all but helping drive it. Great hands in close and in front of the net. Bit of a Matthew Tkachuk feel but quicker and minus the in-tight playmaking. 1
