Not really, the Pens have atleast 5 more years of Crosby and Malkin and with cap steadily climbing and another team joing the league 3.5 cap hit is nothing. Rush17
They really shouldn't be "releasing numbers" lol. They are not allowed to talk term or salary until July 1.
Alflives
Is JJ a UFA though?

There is good reason to believe that he can keep up his play till age 36. This isn't a seabrook at 8 years for twice as much deal.
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Gunna betcha that Crosby had a big influence on this signing. Both are best friends after they played together in Shattuck St Mary's in the USHL.
Qwags
That term, oh boi. The AAV is good, though.

He has amazing mobility and speed, he will have no trouble keeping up even at 36.

ohmy
Meh his best before date has passed. Might get extended for a year or two with Pittsburgh. Really good skater but bad defensively.

oldnews
Johnson has become a good shutdown defenseman - mobile, reasonably physical with solid underlying numbers for some time in Columbus. Those are reasonable enough terms for a guy that can handle 20 or more relatively hard minutes / night.

Assuming that both were available at the same time.

This apparently is the way the NHL worded the rules of engagement for this week......... “Clubs are permitted to discuss their potential interest in, as well as the general parameters of, a potential future contractual relationship with another Club’s pending RFA or UFA during the applicable ‘interview periods,’ but Clubs may not enter into any agreements, or make any binding offers, promises, undertakings, representations, commitments, inducements, assurances of intent, or understandings of any kind, express or implied, oral or written, concerning the terms of a potential SPC with another Club’s pending RFA or UFA.”
