Silver Ghost
Good year for the cap to come in much lower than originally anticipated. Seems it might have both GM's and agents a bit spooked.
Popular Post MrCanuck94
From the start of last season, Canucks lost Hutton (potentially), Gudbranson and Pouliot. Canucks added Myers, Benn and Hughes. Canucks added a legit top 6 forward. Canucks were on pace to make the playoffs if we weren't so injury riddled. These additions are huge. Benning has his flaws, some players may be overpaid, but he's risking it all and making a push towards becoming a winning team. Kanukfanatic
I think part of the problem is the cap is handcuffing a lot of teams. I bet some of the UFAs over the next week are going to have to take much shorter and less money on deals.
Popular Post Provost
That is a pretty decent deal. Obviously an overpayment, but as a UFA you expert that. 1 2 2

Mission accomplished, and the summer has just started. The Canucks aren't just adding Miller, Myers, Benn - or even Hughes. EP, Boeser, Virtanen, Stecher, Gaudette, and the rest of the youth are a year further along, developed. All of Edler, Tanev, Sutter, Beagle were injured - a worst case scenario where their veteran hard minutes guys went down with a lot of youth remaining in the lineup. Pearson returning to develop more chemistry with Horvat, Miller adding heaviness to the top line should help EP and Boeser beyond development. Guys like Leivo won't have to play up the lineup, will make the depth of the team better (if at all healty). The goaltending is also growing, younger and deeper. The bar wasn't that low - they had very respectable outcomes considering they were a M.A.S.H team. Where the bar is actually lower is in the Vancouver hockey media. 3 2
BlueDragon23
If the rumour is true at the 5 year, $6 year, that is a lot better than I expected. But I’m not believing anything until it’s official.
KKnight
I'm expecting Benn at 2.5-3 over 3 years. One year too many, but meh. I'm surprised we haven't heard Ferlands name around. Could be a bit of a bargain to be had there. I love what he brings. Injuries are pretty risky, but if he stays healthy, he could add an element to our team that would be HUGE.

Xur
This is great if true. This is significant. We shed alot of dead weight and gain upgrades on the front and back end. I will be following closely tomorrow.

Fixed! 4 minutes ago, BlastPast said: Health will be a big factor too. A lot of people like to $&!# on the defence (fair enough) but Edler and Tanev missed about a whole season between them last year, that really hurts the group. If they can play 140 + games next year that would have a big impact. What we really need is for 1 or 2 of Sautner, Brisebois, Teves, Rafferty, or Chatfield to step up and show they can be consistent NHL-level players. Not only does that cover their injuries, but greases the skids for Tanev to be moved out TDL or sooner.

Let's not pretend or forget this is still an overpayment by a good amount. For a UFA and for what has been reported though, this is definitely the best case scenario, which is fine! Endogenous growth is almost never spoken of but has potential to be a great source of improvement in a team with so much youth in prominent positions.
Crabcakes
Is anybody going to freak if this comes to pass? Less term, less cap hit than previously reported. The only think that I can think is that when the rubber hit the road, there were fewer suitors than expected because the cap came in at less than expected and too many teams were in tough

Was Markstrom that good. Why did he not receive any MVP votes playing behind such a heinous backline? I'm certainly not suggesting we had a stellar group but Satiar, among many others, is suggesting an all out crap show on defense. Is there a collective need to be hyper ctitical of the home team regardless of facts. Just wondering.

Lee would be an awesome add -- net-front presence, captain-level leadership, multi-sport athlete. Canucks may not have even interviewed him, but if money dries up maybe he or someone like him isn't signed right away, giving the Canuck a chance to move some more cap and make a move on a top-6 yet.
