Tampa Bay Lightning 2020 Draft Recap:

Starting the draft with 2 picks (3rd and 5th), and then ending up with 9 at the end of the draft (4 x 3rds, 3x4th and 2x5th), it ended up being a busy draft for the Lightning. Unfortunately it meant the movement of some bodies out, but overall we are very happy with our draft!

Overall - Name - Position - The Hockey Writers Ranking

68th Overall - Shakir Mukhamidulin (Defense) - Ranked 59th

71st Overall - Yan Kuznetsov (Defense) - Ranked 70th

76th Overall - Blake Biondi (Center) - Ranked 112th

91st Overall - Brandon Coe (Right Wing) - Ranked 54th

96th Overall - Jaromir Pytlik (Center) - Ranked 63rd

97th Overall - Timur Ibragimov (Left Wing) - Drafted 2019 by San Jose

99th Overall - Joel Blomqvist (Goalie) - Ranked 75th

133rd Overall - Aku Raty (Right Wing) - Drafted 2019 by Arizona

147th Overall - Bogdan Trineyev (Right Wing) - Ranked 95th

We feel we have a solid group of prospects here. Some are rated much higher in other rankings but we feel we covered all positions necessary and we are excited to see how they all develop over the years!

New York Rangers:

We're happy to welcome Frederik Andersen and Markus Nutivaara to the Rangers - thanks to @Arbourshate for getting a deal done quickly. We feel this move solidifies our goaltending position which was shaky this year and adds another solid defenseman to our d-core. We came up just short of the Stanley Cup finals - if the real-life Avalanche were to make it past the Stars who knows what could have happened.

Going in to the off-season, we are about as cap-crunched as you can be with ~$11M in cap-space to sign 3 RFA NHL forwards, 1 RFA NHL defenseman and figure out a back-up goaltender going in to next season while also missing 3 NHL depth forwards. We are very happy to keep possibly the best one-two center combo in the league locked up with the Rangers for the next half decade at minimum. The needs to be addressed are simply giving raises where they are due while remaining competitive at the top of the league.

Roster Update:

Gabriel Landeskog - Mark Scheifele - Mikko Rantanen

Anthony Beauviller - Ryan O'Reilly - Filip Forsberg

Calle Jarnkrok - Scott Laughton - JT Compher

Zach Sanford - xxxxx - Michael Raffl

xxxxx, xxxxx

Samuel Girard - Charlie McAvoy

Matt Grzelcyk - Matt Niskanen

Markus Nutivaraa - Scott Mayfield

Brayden McNabb

Frederik Andersen

Malcolm Subban

Red denotes an RFA, underlined denotes players available for trade.

We expect to see some of the following push for a full-time roster spot next year:

  • Isac Lundestrom
  • Jack Studnicka
  • Alexander Volkov
  • Ryan McLeod
  • Urho Vaakanainen

With some more salary increases on the horizon along with addressing our current situation we will need to make some changes. As noted above we have Forsberg, McAvoy, Jarnkrok, and Niskanen on the block along with next years' picks should the right deal come along. We are looking for a less expensive replacement for these player(s) and we're willing to add to a deal to get it done depending on the player. Reach out on CDC or Discord if you're interested.

Will be looking through my inbox again for re-signings tomorrow, and then will have some clarification as to how our free agency will work this offseason. Still trying to figure out the logistics of it, I liked the previous "negotiating window" as it allowed teams a few days to submit offers without having to worry, so I will look at all options to include one of these windows.

Was going to message you last night for Niskanen but figured I'd sleep on it. Just saw that he retired this morning LOL

Our league wide free agency negotiating window will be opening up at midnight tonight!

Teams will have from 12:00 am PST on October 6th until 11:59 pm PST on October 9th to submit free agent offers. During this period of time, you may or may not hear back from the agents. This is an extended period of time to allow for all teams to submit offers without worrying about missing out on any players.

Like last season, any free agent offers for players who have past experience in the NHL will be sent to @Monty. Any free agent offers for players who have not played in the NHL (NCAA, CHL, European prospects) will be sent to @Nail. When submitting free agency offers, please only have 1 player per PM. This will make things easier for the agents to respond to and negotiate contracts, without things getting lost in the shuffle. If you have any questions regarding which agent to send an offer for, please ask!

Players will begin signing this Saturday, likely with some of the bigger fish signing first.

The free agency list can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RidXQr1C2oanyGcizid0eDf4d5x2QxA9TabYY1mKcXc/edit#gid=1952659612
