coastal.view
i think that those wild threats about retaliation by hitting another player over the head with a stick should be sanctioned maybe just a fine the first time? but this looks bad on the league when players say this as it leaves the sense that all illegal stick play is intentional and pre planned i guess the only good thing coming out of this is that if mp ever does anything like what he has threatened he will be facing criminal charges won't matter that the event happened on the ice during an nhl game it is a premeditated crime Edited January 16, 2020 by coastal.view
xereau
Was a crappy play by Jake. He should have been fined, at the least. Player safety, my ass, indeed. It's pretty sad players have to go behind the league to sh*t talk it. And he will be the one getting fined, most likely. Pathetic bush mafia league. Nave
Looks to me that Virtanen was jus bracing for contact. Could have hit him a lot harder if he wanted too. Perreault is a pussay

I seem to remember that loathsome turd showing up in Vancouver after Gudbranson stated that Matt Martin was dead, and lecturing the team on retribution pre-game. Guddy's comments weren't directly to a reporter at all, merely overheard by Dan Murphy who proceeded to air it on Twitter, like an idiot. Seeing as how Perreault was speaking to a reporter directly, therefore effectively quoting him, and stated that he intends on using his stick to exact retribution, this should involve, at the very least, the same level of involvement by league brass, if not more. Personally, silence from the league, is a direct indicator that the Canucks are under a different set of standards and rules than other teams in the league. it was not murph it was the tsn guy abbot Edited January 16, 2020 by Squamfan

Saying he is going to do it, then doing it, probably doubles that. If he swings his stick at someone’s head he’s getting 10-15 games. Would love to see him try that next time. Virt picked a line on the puck. It got punched out to the middle and he saw Perreault coming straight at him and braced. Didn't elbow, didn't skate into him and didn't jump. He extended elbow after contact. Nothing play and Perreault is fine. Needs to shut his yap.

Looks to me like his elbows were down and he was just bracing himself for a collision. Accidental and definitely not predatory.

theo5789
Have to wonder what the reaction would be here had someone hit Baertschi (concussion history) in a similar fashion. I think it's an overreaction by Perreault, but I can see why he would be upset in the heat of the moment towards player safety. He acknowledges that he's the "smallest guy on the ice", so he has to know the disadvantages of being a player of his stature where bigger players will catch him (by accident too) sometimes. You don't get an advantage of player safety because you're smaller. The league has already made it easier to allow skillful smaller players to excel in this league. Targeted the jaw? You can look at the hit frame by frame from the sportsnet feed in the large vid player top of article. Jake had his arm tight to his side and only raised his arm after he hit him. 100% a penalty for interference, 100% not worth a dime or a second look by dpos. The only thing I take umbrage with is Jake not shedding mitts with Wheeler after and putting the whole thing to bed. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/jets-perreault-calls-nhl-failing-punish-canucks-virtanen/ Edited January 16, 2020 by hlinkas wrister

The follow through, up and where the head is/was should signal some intent. Jake is not the innocent altar boy being portrayed here heheh.
