Imagine if the positions were reversed and we were the team with alot of cap space. Zack's at worst a 3rd line wing with potential (and if they're built anything like the Knights they'd want young grinder PF's to help with scorers up top). Vegas got players that had good numbers but were playing lower in the lineup given who were ahead of them - Karlsson, Haula obvious examples. Haula C4 in Minnesota and Karlsson C3/C4 in Columbus became C1/C2 for Vegas. MacEwen does not have that kind of upside. If you want them to waste a pick on a boat anchor you’ll need to offer a lot more incentive. They’re not only taking a bad contract /marginal player, but they’re losing out on the decent player they would have otherwise taken. For the expansion draft, I think Benning will make a deal with Seattle for a draft pick, in exchange for taking the player we want them to take. If we're going to build for the playoffs then Sutter's probably more suitable for #3 C as he's proving. Hobey Baker winner aside, if the fit just isn't there as a 2-way match-up C in Gaudette then it's a solid packaging option for moving our beloved Swede.
