I'm in one part of the UK...wife is in another so recorded the game for her and at the hotel I'm on NHL TV. We have followed the team since 2012 and we have just stayed off social media and speaking with friends all day to watch the game tonight due to time difference. My wife just been on WhatsApp shouting suck it Blues, get in !!! LOL. She is geared up for this series and god we love Stanley cup baby!!! proper hockey!

a great game by the team, had to suck up the pressure at times but the game is about momentum and we just have to capitalise when we can. A team game tonight and we love the vibe coming out from our team. All played strong and captain Bo was awesome. Friday game 2 11.30pm in UK so we will be up to watch LIVE!

Go Canucks keep the roll going. Good night all.

Not sure   where my other post went But yay other UK people - the usual 3:30am starts are brutal! - so you watch any elite league games?

Markstrom makes incredible save

Hrudey: watch how Schenn holds Edler's stick, great play.

Right??? There was another play where St Louis bear hugged one of our guys legs so he couldn't skate off, and the announcers were praising it as this amazing hockey play.  They also spent the entire game calling players by the wrong names.

I had no idea how lucky we are to have shorty and garrett until now.

I think you are really going out of your way to defend him.  Don't accuse me of any bias towards any player.  If Pettersson goes through the motions and looks disinterested, I will comment on that as well.  Again he is not paid to be a passenger on this team.  The fact that he is not a defensive liability is a moot point.  He needs to get more physical and I am hoping he does that next game because given all the crap that his teammates are getting, we really need it.  Don't get your panties in a bunch.

petterssons job is not to be physical its to be offensive and hes done his share like hughes plus hes got a good corsi and 200 ft game   roussel macewen horvat edler myers  pearson beagle need to up theor physicality not petey.

This. I afraid , it will happen, probably if Canucks wins game 2

Yup. It might turn this way if we go up by 2. Luckily, we have a much grittier team than 2011 and I think we can win in a variety of styles. Spotting us 2 games might be difficult to overcome even with the whistles disappearing.

Guys like Roussel, Beagle, Sutter, Miller, Myers, Edler wont let that happen and then our young guys like Jake, McEwan, Motte will jump in

Growing up in the Lumme era, i have to disagree. Quinn is hands down the best we've seen. His edge work, the way he pivots on the line, his vision, passing and now even shooting is all better than Lumme.

Reinhart, Lidster, Tallon, McCarthy, Lanz,a Salo and Jovo all had good-great offense at one point or another and a lot of these guys were also good-great 5 x 5 and on the other side of the puck.   QHs offense is amazing no doubt but he’s not a complete defenseman and maybe  never will be ... and that’s ok.   Lumme has very good defense - always used on the PK with his big long slow as molasses lob...until QHs is used on the PK too he won’t ever be a complete Norris caliber player and hate to say it, until he’s also relied on both sides of the puck ...but it’s true.  He’s just getting started and the sky’s the limit.  80-90% offensive zone starts is a specialist - I’m sure at some point this will change .... but it will take some time and some man strength to get there.  Love the guy nonetheless...

Anyone else cheering for Calgary and Chicago?

There is only one team that I absolutely do not want to play against, and that's Vegas.  If we manage to beat the Blues, and there are no other upsets, we'd face the Knights in round 2 as reseeding happens after 1st and 2nd round.

I remember the day clearly...

Was sitting following the draft in the car, while waiting for the wife shopping. The response to the trade was anywhere from really happy to totally suicidal... Personally I wasn't too sure, as I didn't know enough about Miller, however trusted JB to do the right thing.... man did he ever... that trade will go down in history, as the one that changed the Canucks from being a rebuilding team to a play offs team and maybe even a proper contender...

One thing is for certain. If Benning wanted a role model for EP, he couldn't have chosen much better with the money available... super show by Benning... and haters eat $&!#

And it was priceless to see who was our team scoring leader when the dust settled at season's end, must have driven the Jimbo haters up the wall.. chuckled at the too... A LOT! :)

This is true. If Jake was picked in the 2nd or 3rd round, nothing would seem out of place. But Jake was picked 6th overall, out of everyone, like there were only 5 guys better.

I don't think it was necessarily a bad pick for Benning, but more that Jake hasn't lived up to his end of the bargain. He could be a top player if he really applied himself, but instead has difficulty keeping a spot in the lineup. I like Jake, I have his jersey. I know he can do better.

There's no way Jake would have been picked in the 2nd or 3rd round.  Have a look at that draft year; there's questionably 10-15 players in the 1st that have played better than Virtanen.  Yes, he has not played like a 5th overall is expected, but nor have many other people in his draft played as well as expected.

i cant cheer for Calgary.  Cant forget '89 when they kicked the puck in game 7 and they went on to win the Cup.  You can make a team of dictators and criminals and ill cheer for them before the #@%# lousy flames haha

That would be none other than Perron himself. It's no wonder players like him can be effective when they don't call the crap he pulls. If they called it by the rule book, he would not be able to stay out of the box. With that said, Roussel has gotten away with some stuff as well.

Only real joke was the MacEwen penalty. I can tolerate the Perron stuff, but don't make weak calls then.

You can't better yourself by being afraid of the best competition. I mean maybe we face them in the western finals instead if we don't face them in round 2. Or maybe we get knocked out of round 2 and miss out facing them. I get that they're a challenge, but you need to know where to improve to overcome them. If we somehow knock them out, then there's no stopping us.

It's like us and our demons with Chicago. When we got over that hump, we went to the finals. We may lose against Vegas, but if they become our rivalry team in the playoffs, then we are in a good position.

Strong agree:  Vegas is the one team we match up badly against.  I don't know why we can handle St. Louis but not them, but that's how it is.

Time zone differential is brutal - but I’m making most of the furlough to catch games
