Coaching is obviously important but people go off the rails about it and it’s totally uncalled for.

you want a better power play? How about a point shot? Or a PMRHD to complement Quinn.
Most of our problems are holes in the lineup. There isn’t this drastic variation in systems across the league like many imply. We need some very big pieces to become a better team, coaching will do little to change that.

I see people complain about us just dumping and chasing all the time. Is green supposed to implement a puck possession style with the bottom 6 he has? It’s all about fitting the style with the players you have. That goes for the forwards and the D. We need an identity. We don’t really have one.

Shaw worked in St. Louis and Columbus. Solid defensive systems implemented there that have worked quite well. It looks as though he might be the new defense coach as I don't think he's ever run or strategized a power play.

Who, then is running the power play in place of Brown?

Yeah....I don't really care what you think, tas. Keep that in mind the next time you decide to hoist your nauseating pretention on these boards.

if you want to sound like the dumbest kid on the playground, go right ahead, man ... but don't expect me not to point it out. because I will. just like i did in grade 4.

Don't know anything about Gustafson aside from a quick Google that he was with the Winterhawks for a long time.

I don’t know that much about him, but have read that he handled the power play in Portland, and also worked with the Dmen.

Seems like our defence is going to have lots of coaching help, between Shaw (love that hire), Baumer (like the guy, neutral on his extension), and Gustafson.

Gustafson seems like one of those up and coming young coaches. Has apprenticed under some solid veteran coaches in Portland, and seen his role increase (most recently was AGM and associate coach).

From what I’ve read, Gustafson is one of those young, approachable types that serves as a bridge between the players and the coaches. Maybe a bit of a Malhotra replacement, in that area, plus he might be taking over for Brown on the power play.

Hard to say though. I saw on EP that Gustafson is taking two titles, assistant coach and special assignment coach, so he might even end up floating between those duties, and possibly working with players in both Vancouver and Abbotsford.

Looking forward to hearing how all the assignments are handed out, who’s behind the bench, and what roles they’re taken on.

I'm assuming this means King and Shaw on the bench with Green (or possibley Gustafson instead of King) moving forward and Baumer taking over that third assitant role that Manny and King had before.

But of course, just me assuming.

Good moves regardless, retaining Clarke is HUGE.

Happy with all of these except Baumgartner being back.

Not sure what his role will be going forward. Shaw ran the defense in St. Louis and Columbus, so I have to believe that he'll be doing the same here. That would leave Baum either supporting Shaw, or something else. Hopefully there's more clarification as to who'll do what.

I can NOT believe we brought back BUMMY of the Nolan variety...Thank god Brad Shaw is almost certain to take over the D core, leaving BUMMY or Jason King to be the new PP coach?

Maybe we should have hired the Sedins as Co Assistants or PP specialist coaches temporarily to get their feet wet then move them up into Abbotsford or Canuck Management in some other role? Couldn't be worse that retaining BUMMY of the Nolan variety!

Special assignment coach ...... finding an apartment for Mr & Mrs Podz ..... walking Bo's dog ..... organizing a unicycle-juggling face off between Hogz and Petey.  Those sorts of things

Love your sense of humor Googlie; keep it coming:)
