Yuck.  Was really hoping Baumgartner would be more closely supervised because he is clearly unqualified to perform those responsibilities.

Cleary those more qualified than you or I feel otherwise.

Anyway, I wish the kid (?) all the success in the world. If the Canucks prefer to keep Rathbone then at least he can showcase himself and hit the ground running with a new pricier contract elsewhere. It's kinda a shame that one of them are likely to go in any event. High hopes by many for both.

Why is Baumgartner still allowed to run the defense? How is that a smart move? Why bring in a defensive specialist to run the forwards and power play?

I was under a different impression here. This doesn’t bode well at all for the team.

But after last year the only path Baumer should be on is a path to the unemployment line. The fact that he has any say in how the defence is run at all is absolutely baffling.

Yes, the team obviously sees something we don't.

Given they are still employed in the NHL, and I'm not, I'd say they are probably right.

The year before last we also had better personnel on the blueline and it still wasn't great.

Truly odd considering that neither the defense nor the powerplay worked very well last year, yet only the more tenured coach in Newell Brown was let go, and not the less tenured coach in Baumgartner.

That's an argument by authority and doesn't hold any water. The results of.a Baumgartner led blueline without Christ Tanev on it are right in front of our eyes, and they're not good. The "chickens running around with their heads cut off" strat just didn't cut it.

I'd trust Virtanen with my daughter before I'd trust Baumgartner with an NHL defense.

I hope Shaw has more control over Baumer than they’re letting on.

Theres no way you hire a guy like Shaw and then not give him the reigns over defensemen.

I think a lot of our issues last year were our forwards not giving the defense enough support. I'm assuming Shaw will primarily work on making our forwards more defensively responsible. We'll see I guess, the players also spoke highly of Baumer so who knows.

I think you're right. Shaw has better tools to work with this year too.

Green and Shaw can sett a new strategy and game planning, I'm sure Baumer can run a practice and the bench during games.

Umm what... So we're going to have the guy that sucked at playing & coaching defense run the defense again, then have the guy that's known as a defensive guru run the powerplay??  What's next, Ian Clark is going to run the forwards?

If they don't want to overpay, and by a lot,  they can go pound sand.

Exactly. Have to factor in the off ice value for NJD in that trade too. You know they would all take less money to play together, less risk of any leaving in free agency. Isn't NJD a team that struggles at the gate as well? Landing Quinn would be a marketing dream for them, they can hype the hell out of it. All american hockey familly, 3 brothers all drafted top 10, guarnteed to help them at the gate which means increased revenues.
