To me the two moves that make sense are trading Bo and Luke. Their value is both high. If its a hockey trade then a natural move for me would be Horvat for Hronek. Schenn has a lot more team options but could be moved for a C who is 25 or under that can slot up and down the lineup; Maybe like a Nicolas Roy type

New lines

Hoglander Miller Boeser

Kuzmenko Pettersson Mikheyev

Garland Roy Lazar

Joshua Dries Studnika

Aman

Hughes Hronek

OEL Bear

Buroughs Myers

Has Hronek woken up yet ?

I think Bo is going to the Isles ,  Pageau / Romanov

maybe it sweetens with Rathbone.

Is Raty NHL ready?  He just turned 20, so he just makes the cut. He’s got 10-15 lbs on Petey FWIW.  The only other option is Dobson

To NYI: Horvat 50% retained, extension in place + Schenn

To VAN: Dobson + cap dump (Beauvillier)

take it or leave it Lou

I wouldn't trade Dobson for that

After a gander at Capfriendlee page, making the numbers jive:

3 guys: Bo, TP Pearson & Kyle Burroughs(or Dermott)   ..9.5 to 10.25 mill

3 Isles skaters: Bailey, Beauvillier, Mayfield ..10.6 mill

They must add Bolduc & their 2023 1st(top-5 protection)

- we could retain a smidge(on Bo) to make it even-steven in cap AAV

- Could then deal Schenn for another 1st(should we choose, at TDL)

- Isles have 2 more big RHD men, so give us one!

- Next season they dump 9 mill here(approx), in order to sign Bo

...& everyone's happy :^)

Well I wouldn't want players back unless prospects that might start next season and picks.

We would then have cap room for an ufa or two to fill holes.

Next year or year after we should then be a playoff team.

So Petey is making 10

Miller 8

Bo 8

Kuz 6

Is that even feasible. I don't think so.

In TBL next season they will have:

Point 9.5

Kuch 9.5

Stamkos 8.5

Cirelli 6.25

Hedman 7.9

Sergachev 8.5

Cernak 5.2

Vas 9.5

I think the above numbers for VAN are feasible

Ok, I'll bite:

OEL + Garland for Eriksson,  Beagle, Roussel, a first and a second

Gudbranson for McCann, a 2nd and a 4th

Linden Vey for a second rounder

Kes and a 3rd for Bonino, Sbisa, a late 1st and a third

Forsling for Clendenning

Baertschi for a 2nd (Rasmus Anderson)

Kassian for Prust

3rd rounder for Dickinson

Plus there's a bunch more that even while being inconsequential show a pattern of prioritizing NHL readiness over possible upside. Granlund for Shinkaruk, Gaudette for Highmore, Pedan and a 4th for Pouliot.

That list reads like a cautionary tale about chasing NHL ready players with limited upside. I really hope this new management prioritises getting max value in a Horvat trade, whether that means picks, prospects or young NHL players.

That's what they’re going to make - whether it’s with us or not is up to the GM.

We shed about 7.5 mil in Dermott, Ferland, Holtby and Virtanen next season.

Petey also has one more at 7.35 and Myers’ deal is up when his raise is due - and the cap is expected to jump 4 mil or so that year after 1 this year or so I heard.

Kuzmenko is toast if they can’t move a winger though. As much as I’ve enjoyed him, I hope PA/JR prioritize and invest in C and D if they’re going to spend money anywhere.

Yeah but we’re there any bad trades that he made?

how the heck does Tampa Bay make the cap work for them. that's nuts. and how is it that Vancouver is struggling with the cap?

We don't quite have as many players making that much like the Lightning have.

Well, obviously that isn’t going to happen.

Would be the end of JR and PA in Vancouver.

The expectations are fair. A 1st, prospect and player.

If they make a move for win now, they will just continue to waste Pettersson’s time.

Our guys need to go on LTIR for carpal tunnel or something, and get healthy right before the playoffs start

how about the Canucks go after Pastrnak this coming off-season. Same age as Kuzmenko, but has produced far more. Does he resign in Boston?

lol schenn for a 1st... what are you smoking..

and that is such a terrible trade you take on 9mil + worth of cap dump that's going to be beyond this year and all you get out of it is a 1st and bolduc? we save 0 cap to re-sign players.. and all we get out of it is a 20+ range 1st rounder and bolduc

Off the top of my head, the Kesler trade, the Guddy trade, the Baer trade, Forsling trade, Vey trade, Toffoli rental, the OEL trade....

What trades were solid? Even the trades you could argue he won, like Jansen and Burrows their terrible organizational development (or maybe just terrible pro-scouting) led them to not get any value for.

This Horvat trades needs to define the franchise for years to come. What trades did Benning make provided significant value to the franchise long term? The only one I can think of was Miller. But then a trade like OEL did far more negative to us long term to celebrate 1 win.

I legitimately can't recall one trade where Benning targeted a young player and they have become an impactful part of this team in 8 years. The closest I can think of is Karlsson who's still a big maybe.

I'm so thankful Benning is gone.

Although Benning was awful, I think our owner set a direction that led to such terrible deals.  Our best teams were clearly the Gillis ones.  And those cores were brought in (drafted + traded for) before our current owner bought the club.  I think our owner’s directions to management make it impossible to make trades that set us up long term.

Islanders lost to the Coyotes last night and appear to be trending downward.  I could see Lou Lam doing a Pulock + Pageau for Bo + Myers.  He adds offence and a number one centre.  Barzal moves to Bo’s wing.  Myers is tall.

We get our much needed partner for Huggable and a checking, right shot 3C.
