Aquilinis doing exactly what they need to do to right the ship. They deserve some credit, and maybe some forgiveness. This I can agree with AND both are older so both could be grooming others to take their jobs in the next few years. Sedins for Rutherford and Scott Walker for Boudreau? I am happy we have an experienced President of Hockey Ops, let's see who we hire as GM before we get all bent out of shape like Max the racer and others...

Battlemonger
Loaded with experience in the front office now. Now the president can focus on doing the job instead of learning the job.
Popular Post Industrious1
Like this hiring to add some credibility to a spiraling Canucks front office. Even better that he's President of Hockey Ops and can put up a shield from outside influence (if that is a thing). I've mentioned before that JR has a history of helping teams take 'the next step' and I'm hoping that is exactly what happens in Vancouver. It also helps that he is ingratiated into the upper echelons of the 'old boys' club and can use those connections to actually help the Canucks and not pigeon hole them like has happened in the past. I was actually musing on if Vancouver gets hit with that Luongo recapture penalty if someone like Rutherford is in charge to talk the NHL brass out of it. I mean if Hossa can get out of recapture on something like an equipment allergy.....certainly JR could have pulled some strings to help his club out. Speculation certainly, but also food for thought. I'd be disappointed if they have already thrown Smyl back to his previous position. Run the G.M spot as a group for awhile, so it doesn't look like a repudiation of Stan's abilities. Whatever title Smyl ends up with here the one thing Rutherford is know for is being a collaborative and inclusive leader. He will definitely lean on Smyl I have no doubt about it.

This move might be to help Smyl make the full transition to GM. 2 years of mentorship? interesting times. 1

Who is gonna drive the bus offensively though? That's a lot of eggs into the basket for guys like Klimo
CroSen
As others have said, this could lead to some stability BUT I don't want Smyl's role to be minimized.
Jaimito
No more amateur nights. They had a president, gm, coach with no experience in Linden, Benning, Green. What can go wrong?

Boudreau is an excellent coach. Rutherford is just an Ok POHO We really need the GM to be a winner. Having experience in the roles is vital to winning a championship. We have it in spades so far Who is Mc Farland?

Dickenson looks great there. Nash may well have been a good pick up But, Lammikko and Dickenson have just played their 2 best games of the season and Petey and others are taking a crack at PK wouldn't picking up a 32 year old retread be doing the same thing was clobbered Jim for doing? Like I said in my post earlier, mixed feelings. Time will tell. At the very least we got the experience we needed in the POHO position. Not sure if the same people that are happy about signing Rutherford will still be as happy when he names Botterill GM. Hope I’m wrong. If it has to be Botterill, than I’d prefer Jen please. 1 1 1

I think that was after Wilson bullied the Pens in the playoffs. I was just on the HF mainboard and a Pitts fan basically said that Rutherford lost all logic when Wilson got in his head, it was basically all downhill after that. Reminds me to a lesser degree of Gillis bringing in guys lie Mancari, Bitz, and Volapatti after getting pushed around by Boston.

Although not the most gifted speaker, his comments were sincere and revealed what a good grasp he has of the team and the current situation. Also revealed the passion he has for this team and his vision on how to manage the transition into different management and coaching. His comments to the effect that the players have to step up and show what they have got was interesting and suggested that would determine who stays and who doesn't. He needs to be around this team and be listened to. Thanks Stan - you're a gem. Seems a little odd Stan was the interim until we fund the interim. Why not just hire Rutherford as president? And leave smyl as interim. 3

Just cause he didn’t work doesn’t mean bringing in every experienced guy is a bad thing. It's not a comparison so much as it is a comment on the criteria you choose to use. It looks like they were all afraid to grab the controls so they found someone arrogant enough to pull levers with wreckless abandon. And Rutherford is your guy if that's what you want I'm cautiously optimistic with the move, but for me it's more about hearing Aqualini and Smyl tell us fans only a few days ago that they're going to be patient with the hiring and exercise all of their options, and then they go and hire JR right away. I'm just tired of us fans not being told the truth. They say they want to communicate better, well, then do it. Don't say one thing, thinking it's what we want to hear, and then do another. Be straight up with us, that's all. We can handle the truth. 1 1 2

13231
I'm fine with JR being PoHo, his insights to the team would be very beneficial. Dean Lombardi as GM would be an amazing final piece. Need someone of his pedigree to push to team to contender realm at this point. Hot take: Benning should not have been fired until the off-season, should've been given a chance with JR in the PoHo position. 2
