I think he might have played his last game as a Canuck.  Trade, LTIR, buyout.  Pick one...

He hopefully played his last game in 2023; he needs to heal and rest up for 23/24. Once again, what has he been playing through all year? We completely destroyed our D early due to this FO's inaction. OEL and Myers are better players than they have showed since Nov.

I don't know as many said Steve Yzerman was willing to this deal. There's probably something he sees that was worth giving Hronek up for a 1st and 2nd round pick.

His stats look good but Yzerman, and his history of really good judgment and instincts, wouldn't do this w/o reason and for a team that has no cap problems.

Would this type and quality of player have been available guaranteed?

It wasn’t a major lopsided deal against the Nucks. It’s fair value and it was available to address one of the most key needs for this team. A quality RHD.

Not arguing that, but that pick would be far more valuable at the draft.

Legit top 4 RHD. Can play with QH or OEL.  Still youngish.

Cheaper than Chychurn.

Yesss, play him with hughes so we can finish last in the league next year. Hronek isn't a shut down dman, not even 2 way. He's an offensive dman smh

Chychrun has to be one of THE most overhyped players in recent deadline history. His name is greater than his abilities.

He’s also been languishing on the trade block with a terrible team for what feels like a decade.  Can’t be good for his development.

Again. Because I need to reiterate. I don't hate the trade because we definitely need a player like him. I just feel as though the price is really high because of the time of year this trade occurred in.

I also believe he is not necessarily the type of defenseman we need because we don't have many truly dependable stay at home crease clearing defenseman.

I do not hate it, I just think that the timing of this is one of those we made a deal to make a deal trades.

One bite at a time my friend.  The big bruising Dmen are on their way.  They are cheaper to get than a legit top 4 RHD who can put up 50+ points and run a power play.  I mean, how often is a player like Hronek even available?  Think about that.  Who is the last RHD under 26 years old that puts up 50+ points that was traded?

My initial take is that I'm not thrilled with this move. I hate giving up high picks and now we're out both a 1st and a 2nd.

Another management group that talks about wanting to acquire picks who turns around and flips them out, the more things change the more they stay the same.

But we'll see where we stand after the deadline, after the draft, and going into next season's camp. But yeah, not thrilled right now as he's not even a defensive specialist and our inability to stop teams from scoring goals is what's really done us in this season.

Hopefully there's more coming.

The 1st RHD isn’t a stay at home player anyway.

Is it some sort of confision what we need?

Excellent start to revamping our D. He's having a great season, topping last season, and ... Hronek's only 25.

Really sucks giving up that conditional 1st but Hronek's only going to get better. This accelerates things with immediate quality.

Again, it's the timing.......same as horvat.  Why not wait and maximize your asset value?  That pick would be far more valuable in june

Possibly. Not trying to argue the value disparity either.

Just suggesting that a deal was available that may not have been available later and it addressed a need.

So all in all, I get the trade, and like that the team pulled the trigger on it.

People are looking at his points and not realizing that Hronek does nothing to address the fact that we need defenseman that can play defense more than anything. Hronek is not a strong defender. He’s the kind of guy you add to man your powerplay if you have no offense coming out of the back end like Barrie or Krug. He’s not someone a team who has Quinn fukcing Hughes should be paying a 1st and 2nd for. Absolutely pathetic trade.

It also does nothing to address the fact that this is one of the deepest drafts in recent memory and we needed all the draft picks we had....
