With this loss, we have secured a spot in the lottery for a chance at Bedard..  We cannot catch Ottawa that would have put us out of Bedard sweepstakes.  So even if we win last two games, Enjoy last 2 games without fretting on where we finish in the standings.

if we win any of the last 2 games we could fall as far as 11...all I hope for is close games with Petey getting his 100th point!

After Ottawa's win they were guaranteed to finish ahead of the Canucks, meaning that the "worst" pre-lotter draft position would be 11.

And with the loss to LA and the win by the Capitals, the Canucks moved back into 8th spot.  They are tied with the Caps but they "win" on the tiebreaker.

One more loss and the Canucks are guaranteed to be no worse than 10th. Processing the various probabilities I think it is very likely that the Canucks end up 9th or 10th.

What did Calgary fans possibly expect when Flames Mgmt. hired the Meanest Old Pig Farmer from Red-Deer (The Meth Capital of Alberta) they could find - using his outdated autocratic hate and intimidation tactics - from a generation ago - to threaten players into submission.   No reasonably sane person with any self respect & dignity could last 82 games listening to Sutter spew his vinegar and salt upon themselves.  Why do you think their two top players bailed out as fast as they could last year and bolted out of Cowtown on the first horse?

He will be fired in less than 48 hours unless he beats them to the punch and quits immediately after their next loss.  You can bank on that!

My sympathy to all Flames Fans!    We know what it's like to have a bad coach - trust us on that!  Better days ahead......hang in there!

P.S.: Welcome to the Bottom Feeder world.  It ain't so bad.   We've been here for almost a decade and see how happy we are !

Not to mention keeping a locker room cancer in Lucic.  Sadly, they will be a lot better next year after that inbred hunchback is gone.  They still won't belong in a men's league, but they will likely be improved.

Even though the flames can be our rivals at times, we should show some respect to their fans. These are the same folks that escape the barren moonscape of Alberta annually, after 8 months of extreme-harsh winter conditions working like dogs, depravation, isolation (cut-off a thousand KM's from the nearest civilized city) and boredom of living in Calgary to enter our civilization and spend all their money in the Okanagan getting $h1t-Faced for 2 weeks while supporting our economy.    We need to make those Albertan worker bees feel welcome and allow them to drown their sorrows too!  So let's be nice to our poor little Prairie cousins!

The problem is once they get drunk, the of the local livestock are in serious jeopardy of getting the wrong kind of cow prod.

I know we're talking about tanking but games like this really show how far off we are from the top of the division and heck, even the playoffs. LA just breezed past us and shut our offence down. Sure, they only scored 2 on our goalie, but gave us nothing. They're playing playoff hockey and we weren't even close.

I hope management sees these games and understands that we could be in a real dog fight next season too, they have to make a lot of roster changes to fit Tocchet's style of play. Get rid of the flimsy flashy forwards, bring in some tough shutdown defencemen and grinders. For me, Garland, Beavillier and Myers can go, bring in some mean guys like Gavrikov or Mayfield and maybe a big 3C like Bjugstad, or find some guys via trade.

Regardless of what they do, we're a long way off yet.

GREAT LOSS.    Also proves we still need a descent B/U Goalie !

Letting in 2 goals and a meagre .926 s% what a useless bum. I'm assuming Delia will be gone next season and Silovs is going to spend most of it in the AHL so yeah a reliable backup would be nice, but this game didn't prove a thing.

We didn’t even need to lose. Ottawa’s win earlier secured that.

If somehow the improbable happens tomorrow and we lose to the Ducks along with a Red Wings win, we’ll be locked into either the 8th or 9th pick pre-lotto.

ANA had the crap kicked out of them the other night by the Oilers. They have some nice young talent and I hope they mount a decent game. If RT limits TOI and experiments with some combos a loss is possible. Upset he is putting Demko back in.

Actually we’re right with those playoff teams. We have one of the best core groups in the league. Our supporting cast is being retooled nicely. 105 points next season for sure.

It is back to back games so Demko was either getting the LA start or Anaheim one. Demko also was for sure going to play the last home game on saturday night vs Flames. I know we are all worried about playing Demko too much after a long layoff from injury. But he wants to play and play a lot to prove he is healthy and show his teammates, management, owner and the entire NHL who the real Demko is.

Demko being brought back was always going to lead to us playing better, we had our #1G back and he is in top form! Add in another new coaching change and bump in play for a red hot March and instead of being a top 5 drafting team we are closer to 10th overall with the coaching bump and Demko return. Athletes get paid a lot and have a ton of pride, fans may want a loss every night for a better chance at Bedard and ya they aren't wrong but it was clear the team was never going to do that when they FIRED Boudreau. Bruce there it is was well on his way to securing us a top 5 pick if he stayed on as coach. Maybe JT would have got traded at the TDL to Pittsburgh?

Now we have our #1G back and in top form, we have an Elite D in Hughes, Elite 100pt C in EP then we have quite a bit of cap tied up on wingers imo. We need a Di Gusieppe type player on every line. We have PDG and Joshua who the coach loves, team needs to find a couple more forwards who can play that way and are cheap which also means 2 of Boeser, Garland, Beavillier might need to go for cap reasons.

Try to clear Myers off the books this off season, are we keeping Bear if he wants 3m or more with some term? What are chances we offer Schenn a deal to come back? Hronek is the big RHD piece we have going into next year, Juulsen is a Schenn lite who might be cheaper and is quite a bit younger so can grow into more of  a Schenn type D maybe? Then the swedish RHD that was a former 1st round pick, his SHL season is done now, is he coming to the AHL now?!?

Does the team consider a JT trade to clear some cap space if the return is decent. We lose a good player, but if teams want us to retain or add sweeteners to trade Myers/Boeser/Garland/Beau then we are kind of screwed if we want to even think of improving the D or adding a #3C, those things are not cheap to do in UFA. In some smart trades that could happen but teams know we need to move salary and we are winger heavy. We won't get full value in a trade, just hope its better than Columbus got for Bjorkstrand.

Aside from maybe that one power play when they had control in the LA zone, you're correct. Myers double clutch in his own zone makes me wonder if the Canucks can get a bag of pucks for him, even if he's carrying a $1M contract. I don't even want to comment on Millers pass to Delia which immediately turned into a fire drill. LA has some pretty big forwards, which the Canucks don't have. Which is why I think kids like Karlsson, Bains, and Raty are going to get a good look at camp. Dump and chase won't work with the players the team has now, they simply aren't big enough. One positive, Dries surprised that guy, and Hirose is showing up every game, and not disappointing anyone.

I dunno. It sorta proved Delia lacks the offensive ability to score a hat trick and beat another goalie repeatedly from 180+ feet away. Obviously he needs to work on his shot this off-season. ;)

Definitely agree with this. We need some sandpaper, or dare I say........truculence! Out of Boeser, Garland, and Beauvillier - 2 need to go. The strongest case probably favours keeping Beauvilier imo. The two that leave should be replaced with some grit. Though I don't think Bjugstad is the answer - he is awfully slow which is not a good attribute to have when in a primarily defensive role. It would kind of be like have Tyler Myers play center.

IMO Myers will, and should, play out his final year here. We may even get a contract year bump from him which would be great for the Canucks hoping to make playoffs next year. Hopefully Hronek is healthy because I think he will be a great addition to our D, but as you say, we need some bruising defensive D to compliment him and Hughes.
