Popular Post Down by the River
The author added another figure at the end of his article (after getting ripped for focusing on an injury-plagued season). The figure shows the Sutter's scoring chances against has been getting steadily worse each year. What it doesn't show is things like whether he is being asked to have more defensive zone starts, quality of competition, etc. Either the author doesn't know much about analytics, or it is a disingenuous attempt to offer evidence that Sutter is on the decline. Maybe it is both. Sick of the Kwantlen drop-outs at Canucks Army and PITB that give analytics a bad name by using it to serve their ideology rather than dictate their opinion. 5
Popular Post Drakrami
Not surprised. Whenever we have crappy players who can't score goals, people on this board coin them into defensive specialists. Sutter, Eriksson, Gaunce, Granlund, Beagle. Supposedly with this many elite defensive players, our team still sucks defensively. 3 1

The Pass It To Bulis blog looked at some fancy stats regarding Sutter and compared him to other centres league-wide. The article is here: https://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/brandon-sutter-is-not-a-shutdown-centre-1.23931634?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Posted below: Oof. It hurts to see guys we passed on like Bonino and Richardson performing that much better. It seems Beagle has outperformed Sutter as well. As the article says, maybe cross our fingers and hope that Gaudette is ready for the second half. For the Too Long Didn't Read crowd: just look at the first chart. Sutter is egregious when it comes scoring against based on frequency of defensive zone starts. Not sure how fair that is considering it's based on last season. Sutter only played 26 games and about half of that he was playing hurt. 3
Popular Post Nuxfanabroad
What would you prefer? a.. An LTIR'd Kesler(almost 7 mill hit x 3 more yrs), poking out of the dumpster like an oversized cardboard box, or... b.. Pearson & Sutter (8.1 mill combined x 2 more yrs). With a bunch of ELC's arriving, that they can help show the ropes. Yes I realize there were a few more odds & ends involved, but these are what the main parts have boiled down to. It would be brilliant if we could swap these two blokes for a couple of picks(say 2nds) at the next two deadlines, for example. Then turn one of them picks into a Weber, Subban type-D. With our scouting dept..hey, you never know?! The beauty of recycling. 3 3
Popular Post spook007
How about we take this discussion halfway through this upcoming season, provided Sutter stays healthy. I have a good feeling that his stats are going to improve severely with the new arrivals to our team. Being injured half the season and playing with changing line mates doesn't help anyones stats.... scape goat springs to mind... 1 5

appleboy
Sutter is a better winger then center. He is a winger who can take faceoff's. Sutter has never been a good center. If he is not traded and he can stay healthy he just adds to the depth of our wingers. He has a good shot and can skate well. He can get you 20 goals and play on the 3rd line. DallasDrake
IMO biggest bummers during Jim's tenure has been constant injuries to Guddy Sutter and Baer. I cheered for them all so hard and now it seems they are nearly done. Had they stayed healthy I think things would be very different. And now Roussels injury.. when this will end? 1 1

Can't say I'm a fan of Jake and Sutter on the same line. Jake actually rushes but totally brain farts when he enters the zone on the RW. Sutter doesn't have the speed to be effective with Jake IMO. Guess that line could work with a winger like Goldy or Baer. IF Sutter is healthy he's got good wheels, and I'm betting on Jake growing out of his kid brain this year. Some guys just take longer to grow up.

Ghostsof1915
So back in 2016-17 when he last played 81 games. He had 34 points. And -20. He's had two seasons out of 4 where he's played over 60 games. Prior to coming to Vancouver he was a healthy player. So does this also mean, the wear and tear on players in Western Canada is worse with the travel? Does it mean our defence has been sort of a patchwork? I think by adding both size and skill, and speed to the team, our players are going to fare better. But I do think Sutter and Eriksson are players on paper that look fine, but just don't mesh with the team.
